can you please add a manual transmission? cuz i can't drive it in manual mode with the pre-race update, its impossible
errm not since 0.3.0.5, as of the pre race update (0.3.1) a transmission defined as automatic can only switch between arcade and realistic automatic modes and a transmission defined as a manual can only go between manual and arcade auto. Although I must say, 3 speed transmission (its actually an automatic IRL, although commonly adapted to have a manual shifter effectively turning it into a clutchless manual) + dana300 transfer case would result in 2 reverse gears and 6 forwards gears, somehow we have 3 and 7. By my reckoning, the Turbo350 had 1st gear 2.52:1, 2nd 1.52:1, 3rd 1:1 and reverse -2.07:1. The dana300 then had 1:1 high range and 2.62:1 low range. This leads me onto the following gearing (in order R 1 2 3): Hi Range: -2.07, 2.52, 1.52, 1 Lo Range: -5.4234, 6.6024, 3.9824, 2.62 Leading to a BeamNG total: -5.42, -2.07, 6.6, 3.98, 2.62, 2.52, 1.52, 1 A comment in the JBeam references an NP241 transfer case too. However this would still account for more than 7 forward speeds + 3 reverse and I really cant be bothered with the maths at this point, should be 12 forward gears and 4 reverse gears (4 combinations of high range and low range selection across both cases combined (2 states per case, 2 cases, 2^2 = 4) multiplied by 3 forward + 1 reverse = 12 forward and 1 reverse). Only thing I can conclude is that once I do the maths for all 12+4 gears there may be duplicates, maybe I'll do it later. Regardless. I have attached a file with 2 more gearbox options. Both are almost identical featuring the ratios I just calculated above instead of the originals, 1 version is automatic and the other version is manual. I might pop back later with the full 12 speed calculations. Obviously based from Mythbusters original transmission so credit to him for that
As long as there is no engine stalling and ignition, there is no difference between manual and clutch less manual. When you press Q to get the manual it will function like a manual, except that you don't need to clutch.
I was quite clearly referring real life where I presume you have never driven a manual because there is an absolutely huge difference. It is a popular mod to take the Turbo 350 automatic transmission and then modify it for manually selectable gears *IN REAL LIFE*
I drive a manual car. Every day. and my comment was not about the turbo350 mod. Clutch, change gear, unclutch. where in beam, it's just change gear because the engine doesn't care, and there's no damage to gears if you don't clutch.
By my reckoning, the Turbo350 had 1st gear 2.52:1, 2nd 1.52:1, 3rd 1:1 and reverse -2.07:1. The dana300 then had 1:1 high range and 2.62:1 low range. This leads me onto the following gearing (in order R 1 2 3): Hi Range: -2.07, 2.52, 1.52, 1 Lo Range: -5.4234, 6.6024, 3.9824, 2.62 Leading to a BeamNG total: -5.42, -2.07, 6.6, 3.98, 2.62, 2.52, 1.52, 1 First off I'm so happy you fixed the trans problem that was occurring after the update. So far I've noticed two small issues, first one is the reverse gear ratios are backwards (assuming we start in Lo range and then switch to high) because you have 1st reverse gear at -2.07 and the second at -5.4234 they should be switched. And the other issue is that if you respond the jeep (by pressing R or Ctrl-R) it reverts back to automatic mode, i have no knowledge of J-Beam so i have nothing to offer on how to fix that. anyways thanks for the Fix!!!!!!!!!!!
Aaaaaand you can't read apparantly. It clearly says both in the first post and in the files that it has a doubler transfercase: A Dana300 COUPLED with ANOTHER transfercase, an NP241, which indeed results in 12 forward gears and 4 reverse. Problem is, there's no point in BeamNG to have that many gears since half of them are way too similar, so I left a few out that I found were just not necessary. Ill update the file soon so it'll be a manual. Sadly, that'll bring more problems because there's no way to have the benefits of using a automatic with a manual shifter. BeamNG will keep giving you problems on hills where the torque converter would help you in real life.
Wow, I can't read? I wrote an entire paragraph on the NP241. - - - Updated - - - Yes, I noticed the reverse gear switch. Total accident. I havent noticed it reverting to auto. Without being on my PC right now I can only guess at the cause, I probably forgot to rename the part properly so its reloading the original again. I'll look later.
Yes, apparantly you can't. Otherwise you wouldn't have needed to type the first paragraph saying "it should only be 6/2 gears, not 7/3" in the first place, cause you would've said "there should be 12/4 gears, not 7/3" ... Plus you said the files reference a NP241, which means you completely ignored the first post which explains exactly how the transfer cases are set up Uploading it as a manual right now. Might take a while depending on how fast the forum uploader is... EDIT: Updated. Have fun.
FYI: You can also change gears in a real manual gearbox without a clutch. RPM matching is key here though.
Dude, this Jeep is pretty sick...BUT I tested this on the 6 Hundred Acres v2 Beta Map and bro...the Gavril D15 Offroad mod outdid this thing in a 40 degree climb. The DSC Buggy Crawler also outdid this bad boy at climbing as well, the HellJeep just can't get any traction on those steep climbs! Maybe it's the tires, I'm leaning more towards the differential however. Keep in mind the testing was done on the same hills under the same conditions, and that map is grueling...try it for yourself! Maybe I suck at climbing? I drove both vehicles in manual automatic clutch, the D15 and DSC Buggy could climb up 40 degree inclines in 1st gear, while the HellJeep struggled to even maintain any traction, and that's a bad sign! Either way, awesome vehicle, looking forward to more.
Thanks... BUT I'm pretty sure the D15 offroad mod isn't meant to be realistic at all(like many mods of the official vehicles...), and the DSC Buggy isn't even a real vehicle, and while it's a great mod, it seems to be designed to be pretty arcady and fun in how it controls(ie for realism it might have too much grip, but it's wide and has a low center of gravity so it doesn't flip over). On top of that, the buggy is WAY lighter. I honestly don't see how either of them is in the slightest comparable to HellJeep... You can get up anything in HellJeep if you get a slight run-up, that's all you need because in the end, you just want to get up the hill. I'm pretty sure other than Land Rovers that have some insane traction control, most vehicles can't climb 40 degree inclines.. However because I might be wrong, and because I did never tune the tires after the race update came by, I tuned it a bit.... It's way less drifting now, sadly... It's uploading so expect it to be downloadable in like, 30 minutes max... I also made it a manual even though it's an auto with manual shifting, which is kinda dumb because the devs should add proper support for torque converter + manual shifting like we've requested many times :/ Also, I managed this:
thanks a bunch, mythbuster, i love that the mean green unstoppable machine can go up inclines again. i'm only a casual jeep owner, but i think you've caught the spirit perfect in this, even if it's made me scared to drive my own for fear of the steering going out
