On another(and non electric) note look, at this cool car: It is a 2007 BMW 3-series wagon 328i with a 6-speed, it seems like it would be a fun car to be a daily driver. If you have had a BMW wagon in the past or driven one, please share your stories. I would love to hear them..
2 of those are Holden Commodores and y'know what they did to Holden? they killed it off. they also killed off saab as well.
I know there both based off of Holden's. I also know they killed Of; Saturn, Hummer, Pontiac, Opel and a few more In fact GM's worst decision of the 21st century was ditching/discontinued Holden.. And Pontiac for that matter. I Personally wasn't a fan of saab, nether in the 80s or 10s. but that is just my opinion
Has anyone ever put more money into a car than is objectively a good idea? I'd love to get my S197 cleaned up but for the money I'd put into it I could easily just get a nicer one. I've always loved the pre-facelift S197 but ever since I bought one I've been that much more a fan of them. I really love mine and want to clean it up, but it's a standard GT trim, nothing special. No glass roof, no heated seats, etc... I've only had the thing for 18 months and put 30k miles on it (at 104k total now) so it isn't exactly a low mileage example. The red paint is in extremely bad condition and the rims need refinishing, but other than that the car is clean. I'd love to at least get it repainted professionally but a good paint job alone is probably 60% of the car's value. There is a part of me that just wants to embrace the ratty look and clear coat it as is.... And no I'm not about to drop a coyotte in the thing. Definetly would like to get more out of the 4.6 somehow though...
Well, after a small accident (not my fault) as well as several things that I should have seen coming from my truck's history towing waaay more than any 27 year old 2.3L Ranger ever should have (before my ownership), I've put more than I bought it for into it. You read that right, I paid for it ($#), and have paid more than that in repairs (repairs > $#). Thankfully insurance covered the accident, but erm... let's just say I like this truck... alot...
I've just been shovelling money into the fire that is my 99 Regal. Its not even supercharged. Problem is I like the car too much to get rid of it, and I want to keep it on the road while also making it enjoyable. Cars are never a money-smart investment. Just do what makes you happy.

Got quoted for a rebuild. Five grand, including balancing, 1200 for removal and installation through a mechanic down the road. Im budgeting for about seven grand all up in case shit happens. Trying to find a rebuilt slant six for sale is a bit like find gold under your porch, it just aint gonna happen so now now its rebuild time
Sometimes the cheapest fix is the best fix Also one eyed the bog and paint in the C pillars, thank god the trim pieces hide it While im waiting for it to go back on the road im just just fixing niggling little problem, theres really nothing wrong with this car at all (apart from the new "issue"), everything works. Im just going to replace the the dimmer switch, headlight switch, washer pump and melt the plastic bottle back together, and remove the front seat so i can unstuck the runners. And thats it, nothing else wrong at all, for 54 years old and 5 of which were spent in a paddock this thing is remarkably solid. Chrysler Australia sure could make damn good car back then, no American half lazy half on it shenanigans here. Oh I think ive been bitten by the A body bug
for the princely sum of £350 i have scored myself a 2008 Proton Gen-2 it's got 95k miles and a fierce little 1.3 litre engine just to tide me over while 'ol red gets the TLC it doesnt deserve
Today i fixed the niggling little problems on the Val'... And created a new problem in process, first i managed to fix the completely stuck bench. That took a bit of fiddling with because the one lever on the drivers side was no longer speaking with the passengers internal lever (even though the cable was still connected!), meaning i had the hold the internal adjustment lever underneath forward whilst my pop sat in the seat holding the external lever forward, pushing against firewall. It took 30 minutes for it to finally budge but now it moves freely along the runners, though still a two person job to move it haha, now i can reach the wheel. Then i bought some paint to fix the "touch up" paint the previous owner used, the car was painted blue straight over the original white paint, because it had been in a field for many years the blue paint had chipped and cracked away reveal the white so the owner being colour blind bought some very light metallic blue, and it just looked terrible. So i did the right thing and bought some more wrong paint and painted over the wrong paint, at least you dont see white in big chunks anymore. Now it looks .005% betterer, or worse. The radiator bolts were finger tight, thats nice. Had to pack the bearing caps with grease because there was absolutely nothing in them, and they weren't new caps either, at least they actually came off. Heres a fun one, i was driving with only the front 9' inch drums! When i drove it home i loosened reservoir cap and shit just started spilling out so i just assumed it was full and tightened it up without actually checking, i should have noted how noted how nothing came out the back or sides. Got bored and popped off the cap today, less spillage, and lo and behold the rear resevoir was empty. There was some fluid still in the pipe and a little on the sides and that was it, completely empty, no wonder it was a bit scary coming a small hill. Now i created a problem because i noted the washer bottle kept on dropping its lunch and consequently years of that had rusted out the brackets holding it, the washer pump is screwed to the brackets, as i was undoing the screws the snouts for the little hoses snapped off the pump body, oops. At least the bottle now holds it water with the help of a good ol' fashioned Zippo No pics, nothing was worth taking pics of, and im a bit embarrassed at how bad my touch up of the touch up turned out
I have to wait two more weeks before the engine is taken out, i was hoping there would be more things for me to fix (or break), so far the car has been disappointing
So apparently, when the Targa Florio was a thing, they blocked roads for the race itself but not for practice sessions, meaning that drivers had to mob through traffic to get their practice in. My question is, how do we get back to this?
Struggling to find things to "fix" on the Val' but i changed the diff oil. First time ive ever changed a diffs oil, i ought a cover plate gasket but i couldn't get the whole cover off because the brakelines were in the way of the upper two bolts, a waste of $15 and i accidentally bought 4 3 ton stands instead of two, the boxes didn't say nothin i swear. The oil itself wasn't too bad but its not like im going to reuse it anyways and it was quite low, no one ever checks the diff oil it seems. Oh and the ancient, deeply cracked rear tire had lost its will to live, so i placed the even ancieter deeper cracked spare in its place and it seems to be holding air so far. Might try and book a tire place the same day im supposed to get the car back on the road, breaking in the new engine wont be nice to these tired Get a look at those awesome Wilwood disc brakes !
Replaced a blown bulb in the dash, it was a new experience wriggling on the floor half squeezing into/behind the dash to unhook the speedo cable. Found out how the do the wheel alignment, absolutely genius system these old worm and roller steering systems had, too bad the same couldn't be said about rack and pinion. Also found some premium weight reduction in a totally non vital area of the car
