I'll generate working PBR texture cache for requested maps (missing/black textures on Linux)

BeamNG on Linux doesn't generate PBR texture cache correctly, resulting in black textures everywhere.

I'm taking requests to generate PBR texture cache for maps. The original github seems a bit dead, and I don't like Google Drive, so I'm taking file hosting into my own hands at http://lloydlynx.ddns.net:81/terrainMaterialCache/

    How to install working cache:
    • I'll send you a .zip file that contains lots of .dds files. Those are the cache.
    • Extract the all those .dds files into "BeamNG.drive/<game version>/temp/art/terrainMaterialCache/", making sure to replace any duplicate files with the ones from the .zip. The game shouldn't be running while you do this.
    • If you installed Steam as a native package(deb, AUR, etc...), your BeamNG.drive directory will be located at "/home/<username>/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/284160/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/BeamNG.drive"
Now you should have working PBR textures.

Note: Steam Proton 8 has released. It seems to fix the PBR issue, but it causes frequent game crashes to an unplayable degree.

I don't have a github account but since you wanted the cache for Yellowsand Island:
Sorry if I seemed rude in my reply but I absolutely cannot stand reviews that are not constructive or "dock" a star or more for reasons not directly related to the mod.

Completely understandable. Sorry about that review. I've reported it to be deleted, so that should happen at some point.

You probably saved me a lot of debugging. Thanks a lot for that :)
One question: How do you generate the cache files? Do I only need a working windows machine to generate the files and copy them to the linux machine?

Yes. I keep a spare drive in my PC with Windows on it soley for generating texture cache.

    Hi Joomes!

I am running BeamNG on Wine on a Mac and I have the same issue as Linux users, I downloaded the cache files from the GitHup page and am enjoying my vanilla maps very much now!!

So in case your offer is still on I would like to ask if you were willing to generate working PBR cache for the PBR Nordschleife available here:
    ?

Actually the link is in the comment section, it's this one:
    https://www.mediafire.com/file/6ur4hy...

I would sure love to see what the Green Hell looks like in full PBR glory!
Thank you for your consideration and have a nice day.

The map linked doesn't have PBR textures. I put it into Windows BeamNG and it didn't generate PBR cache. I put the map into my Linux BeamNG and I'm not having black texture issues.

    Whoops, that's a bummer! o_O
But anyway, thank you very much for trying! And for the fast answer.
Sorry, I did not know that the video title was misleading.
Now that you mention it,makes sense … there were no black/shiny texture glitches.

Hey! Since there's a new update just came out the PBR texture cache github doesn't have any new textures yet. If you're still doing this could ya make some for the newly PBR Automation Test Track?

Hey Joomes just a technical question (sorry in case it makes no sense because of my lack of insight):

I had the console open not long ago and when I loaded a car and I just happened to see the message: Mipmap not generated (and it was the one for the car I just loaded).
So are there PBR textures for vanilla cars that aren't generated under Linux/Mac in a similar way like the terrain material cache ones?

(I am aware that I have never experienced black or overly shiny texture glitches on cars, but I do see a big disparity in frame rate, for example I might get 40-80 FPS in the dev-quality Claria but 20-50 FPS (oscillating back and forth) in the ETK 800 Series sometimes. So I was wondering if BeamNG is looking for these Mipmaps repeatedly if that makes any sense at all)

P.S.: I have to add that I'm currently still on 0.27

I don't know of any related vehicle texture issues. I do know that both the newer ESC systems and the AI destroy performance on BeamNG through Proton. It affects most of the newer model vehicles.

Oh, that's very interesting. Thanks for the hint. Wine CrossOver and Proton might be similar enough to have the same issues.

EDIT: I made a couple of experiments and this absolutely checks out.Thank you again.

EDIT EDIT: (Scratch that! All good. I forgot the terrainMaterialCache-folder Wine needs)

Oh I just saw your EDIT about Steam Proton 8, that's very unfortunate :( Hope there's a fix soon.

Hi ! I don't know if the thread is still active but I wanted to ask you if you can make me the textures of 4 maps (rocky coast, USA / moab utah / gambler hills / motorsport playground) from I don't know how much can be hard but since you have a side windows it's not as complicated as doing an extended command to generate the textures (plus the modded maps are not in the same directory as the vanilla maps so the scipt must be modified or in any case it does not work the same to generate the textures of mods)

EDIT : too long, but I can never stop myself from telling everything that comes to mind

EDIT : the last edit was made 40 seconds after the first publication of the message so it is normal if it is not marked that it has been edited
