Does anybody use a operating system on Windows 7 or lower to play BeamNG.DRIVE? I want to know as I would rather use a older operating system to play the game due to Microsoft's decisions with operating systems. Thanks! :)

You can technically play BeamNG on computers on old operating systems. The lowest version that was ever supported was Windows XP, but the last update that supported it came out in 2015, iirc. The last version that supported Windows Vista came out in 2017. Both operating systems and both game versions are extremely outdated, and cannot run anything that calls for PBR or libraries not included in those versions of Windows. If you can upgrade to at least Windows 7, please do. If you can't, follow the instructions here. However, if you are using a computer that cannot even run an operating system that came out almost 13 years ago, I think it might be time for you to upgrade.

If you have problems with it running on 7 you can always use linux.

It isn't that he has problems with it. Apparently, he has a vendetta against newer versions of Windows.

Yeah but since there probably isn't any support for 7 anymore it could have problems.

Yeah, I know. I don't know why they want to use an operating system that has been without support for almost five years (Vista) or eight years (XP). It is just weird, combined with the fact that they both had their update servers shut down long ago. So if he gets an ISO of either operating system, he will ned to go on a scavenger hunt if he wants to use the last available build.

Probably 7. I would reccomend you taking a look at Michael MJD's review of the unofficial windows 9 project (it is based on windows 8.1 industry pro) then upgrade to windows 10 N (if it allows you to upgrade to that) then remove the bloatware using a youtube tutorial

W7 user here. BeamNG works fine on Windows 7 (as basically any game that support it) so no worries.

Yeah... I guess it's just because newer operating systems... just don't appeal to me as much... Sorry if I sound foolish.

It's probably a bias but if I was to look at Windows 7 or XP and then look at Windows 10 or 11, for some reason those older operating systems are just more appealing to me. I might sound dumb but I like the way Windows 7 or XP look over how Windows 10 or 11 looks, not that Windows 10 or 11 are bad, I just would rather have some of those older operating systems if I am able.

someday someone's gonna find a zero day RCE that microsoft will finally not bother to patch and they're gonna get all your cloud nudes!!

if you have such a hate boner for microsoft you should really just get around to learning about linux and WINE.

To be honest I just am not a fan of newer operating systems (mainly Windows 8 and above) and I did consider switching to Linux. However, the only thing I fear with Linux is compatibility issues. I know there is Wine for Windows programs, but I just wonder about the compatibility as who knows how some games will run on it... especially BeamNG.DRIVE as that game can run slow with multiple vehicles on the screen.

We know pretty well, for quite a large number of games... https://www.protondb.com/ Gaming on Linux is not really a black hole anymore. In fact, BeamNG is officially rated as "Playable" on the Steam deck.

Neat! When I get a new PC, I can just have Linux and Windows 7 on the same PC as I get Linux set up!

I found this video by MichaelMJD on this thing that turns xbuntu into Windows 95:

And I wouldn't mind having something like that but with Windows XP!

P.S.: Unrelated, but how do you feel about Microsoft's newer operating systems?

I use Windows 10 as my main desktop OS, but only because Linux has outstanding bugs with NVIDIA/KDE/Wayland (as of August last year, there have of course been updates since then and I've heard that the situation is much improved) that make my screen configuration unusable. I've never tried Windows 11, and I won't until I can put my taskbar on my secondary screen (and ONLY my secondary screen) like I can in Windows 10. As far as I know that's still not possible, so I don't really have an opinion on it. I actually liked the 8 start screen. There was a great app that made start screen tiles for steam games and let you customize their size and image. It was a far better steam launcher than steam itself, and I dearly missed it when I changed to 10 before the Steam library update. My opinions on Windows really only extend to what I can or can't do in a certain version. I don't really care about possible moral quandaries with microsoft and tracking or system requirements or whatever some people complain about. It's easy enough to just turn it all off. Windows 10 pretty much just works, usually, so I don't really have any outstanding opinions about it either way, as a specific version of Windows.

Call me pity, but for me it's the UI... Stock Windows 10 just looks bad in my eyes, probably could even call it "MS paint" levels of bad. It's a minimalist design that is overly plain and is just a eyesore to me. It's not like minimalist designs are objectively bad (see: Persona 3, 4 and 5), but Windows 10 is just plain. Windows 11 is better with some glassiness though!
