As the title suggests when I lock up the brakes on any vehicle auto or manual the revs to drop to idle and freewheeling occurs. Feels like the clutch kicks in but does it with autos as well. It only resolves when I give gas, depressing the clutch or changing gears in manuals doesn't bring up the revs. Really annoying when you come into a corner, hit the brakes and the gearbox/auto disengages usually resulting in crash as you want engine braking but that disappears.

When the wheels lock, the TCM (in Beam, all automatic transmissions are "electronically controlled") thinks that the car stopped, so it behaves like it would with the car stopped. Of you don't use ABS, I'd suggest using manual mode on the transmissions to minimize this "issue".

It does it on automatic or manual transmissions. Yes I turn off ABS.

I did have it on, I tried it turned off and the problem is still there. Problem occurs on automatic transmissions as well as manual cars.

Playing around with the clutch assist does look like it is causing the problem, that and what Xupaun said about automatic transmissions seems to have resolved the issue.
