I have a Lenovo G500 laptop with these specification:
Intel Core Duo 1.9GHz (Dual Core)
    4GB of ram, 3.87 usable
    Intel HD Graphics graphics card

I have already downloaded and enjoyed probably at least 8-12 hours worth of the tech demo playing (yes this is my dream come true for a game) It runs at 25 FPS on minimum settings with Mesh quality on highest setting. I only get a half second freeze before impact for the first 3 or 4 crashes and then it is pretty much a smooth day. I am really surprised that my laptop can even handle this wonderful game(its more like the best toy for anyone!).

I was wondering if I can use the techdemo as a reference on whether or not the alpha will run on my system, as I have seen on youtube, those environments seem to be really taxing and I just want to make sure before I slap money down and get it for sure (before I do a system upgrade).

It may on lowest and without Post-FX in high vegitation areas. But there are good non veggie maps. (n-labs for example) My hd 7770 struggles with all mediums at 1280x1024. Resolution is a huge factor.

You should take the mesh setting down. I have it on normal on my rig. But, on the full version the maps that have vegetation and stuff such as small island are a bit harder on the FPS but the grid map should be pretty much the same performance. (Also, make sure you have aftereffects turned off)

Really? I do fine at all medium at 1600x900 with my 7750. It is a bit overclocked, but if you have the 1GB that may be why. (Mine is two)

Yep, getting a 7950 soonish. Pumped! It also refuses to overclock but the memory speed got me well over 20 more fps when I overclocked it, then it crashed. :(

Ah, I have the core edition which is supposed to be really good at overclocking but I can't get the memory more than 800Mhz which is about 100 more than stock. The core is at 1Ghz which is 200 higher. I was actually going to get a 7770 which was the same price as my 7750 but I didn't because it was 1GB.

Plus, isn't BeamNG.DRIVE being updated to be better used on slower or not as powerful machines?

EDIT: Does it also help that I have WIN8 64Bit?

There isn't a x64 version of the game yet, it doesn't matter.

I read in the requirements and it said that a 64 bit system is recommended.

Yes, because then it can use all of your RAM if you have more than 4GB because I think 4 is the max that 32 bit OSs will use or "see".

I think you need a dual core or multicore

my laptop is a Toshiba L50 B 1DV and it has a i5 4200U and 8GB of ram and it runs fine with mesh texture and shaders all on high. I bought the alpha and it works fine and if I use the DSC Bora or the VW Polo R WRC it runs at about 40FPS! Brilliant!:D

You've bumped a thread that was last posted on in 2014, but it's okay because it's relevant. :)

I'm pretty sure it won't run on that. It's not powerful enough and the graphics card doesn't support DirectX 11. Sorry! :(

    (I'm assuming it's this laptop: http://www.pcworld.com/product/1320109/acer-aspire-5535-6608-notebook.html)

    Not likely. It's just outdated.
You'd be better off with a new computer if you want to run BeamNG.drive.
Laptops in general aren't ideal for the game because of their cooling not being that great, resulting in the pc throttling and dipping in performance.
You also need higher-end hardware to get the best performance.
