Inspired by killercar34's post, these are my bug-out builds for a nuclear apocalypse. Each build has its own little backstory. Spoiler: backstories Gavril Barstow "Deathadder" This deathtrap was originally a silver Lancehead, though it was abandoned in a barn 21 years before the warhead hit the city of Chicago. Thankfully the barn's located in the countryside, and this saved the car from being turned to ash. Now it belongs to the leader of a group of survivors who are desperately trying to reach Wyoming, a state nearly 1,000 miles away. This ragtag team doesn't have any malicious intent, they simply want to escape the spreading fallout. The Lancehead has been heavily modified, and the only thing that stays completely stock is the suspension. Armed with a blown "Ultra-Thrust" V8 pushing north of 800 horsepower and topping out at nearly 170mph, it is the fastest car in the group by a pretty sizeable margin. Extra-wide rear wheels and slick tires have been fitted in an attempt to make this beast slightly more controllable, but it's still quite sketchy to drive. Soliad Wendover "Apache" Used to be a wrecked rally car, now this...thing. The owner of this wild Wendover is actually the group leader's long-time friend, and he had been building this contraption into its current state long before the war started. A mild lift had to be done in order to fit those fat mud-terrain tires, but other than that the suspension setup was left unchanged. What has changed, however, is basically everything else. The original front and rear bumpers were heavily damaged during a test drive, so they were replaced with much more durable ones that were crafted in the workshop. The spotlights and antennas were taken from a retired police car. In the place of the supercharged I4 is a supercharged V6 paired with a hood exhaust, which makes it by far the loudest car in the group, and it even has a second fuel tank. One may question how protective the car is against radiation due to the lack of any windows, hence the driver always wears full-body PPE equipment to compensate. Even so, Apache is always a true blast to drive on loose roads. Gavril Roamer "Roamergeddon" Your average family SUV, but so thoroughly modified that it doesn't look like one anymore. This big guy is running a 6.0-liter diesel V8 with a monster of a turbocharger that produces over 40PSI of boost and as a result, this absolute unit of a turbodiesel churns out well over 1000Nm of torque. Featuring a bull bar, steel wheels wrapped in 33-inch all-terrain tires, custom suspension, a fully loaded roof basket with four bright lights, and a pair of locking differentials, Roamergeddon is unsurprisingly the most capable vehicle in the group when it comes to offroading. The only problem is that at least one of the roof-mounted jerry cans has to be refilled every single day...Deathadder is a damn thirsty machine. Gavril D15 "Sledgehammer" At its core, Sledgehammer is just a beat-up work truck that's been given a bunch of useful upgrades. The most obvious upgrade is probably that massive derby-spec bumper on the front, but every modification to this truck has been executed with the mindset of function over form. The suspension setup is similar to Roamergeddon's, but a bit more toned down for better road handling as well as fuel economy. Double HF antennas have been installed for communication purposes, and extra lights are always a great bonus in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. A roll bar, running boards, and heavy-duty front bumper have been installed for the sole purpose of increasing durability. It runs a huge 6.9-liter V8 taken straight from a D35 and is fitted with wheels and tires taken from an old Ibishu Hopper. Overall, Sledgehammer is a very tough pickup with fairly decent off-road capability. Due to these properties, it is also sometimes chosen to go on recon missions. Gavril H35 "Sanctuary II" It's not fast at all. It kind of - no, really - sucks on technical trails. And it rides on leaf springs. But the one thing it does have that the others don't, is a LOT of room. Unlike the other cars in the group, this old Vanster is almost completely bone stock. The only things that are aftermarket are the push bar and the twin lights mounted on it. Still, Sanctuary II is arguably the most important vehicle in the convoy, because it serves as a rolling home for the whole team. The cavernous cargo bay means it can serve as a supply van, a people carrier, and a mobile base station all at the same time. It usually drives in the middle of the convoy, and everyone else can't exceed 100mph, or else it legitimately can't keep up. Gavril T75 "Devastator" This old semi is owned by a man who runs a garage in Utah. Due to the harsh terrain there, the T75 was given a few upgrades such as offroad tires, an inter-axle locking transfer case, and a small suspension lift. By sheer coincidence, this also meant that it's pretty well equipped for SHTF scenarios...such as a nuclear holocaust. Now armed with a huge ram plow, Devastator became the team's main offensive vehicle as it can easily plow through road barriers, debris, and hostile vehicles without suffering too much damage itself. It is also responsible for hauling in wrecked cars for parts, as well as towing and repairing the team's cars if needed.
