Hi All, (For the suggestion/idea, jump to the bottom of my post) Just throwing in my 2c. As I understand it, the physics API that will be used is accurate enough to simulate (slightly) large structures as well as small. I'm just wondering if it would be possible to, for example, implement the design of structures such as bridges (hopefully small to medium suspension bridges) or other metal structures like sheds that are affected by physics, weight distribution and take damage (such as a truck that's too heavy or crashed into supports on a suspension bridge). I think it would be kinda fun crashing and denting parts of a bridge and destabilizing it so sections might fall away or critical failure pulling down the whole structure. I'm not sure if that would require a DMM system to manage these kinds of events or not. I think softbody physics should suffice though? Oh hell I hope I don't get banned. Well.. If it can't be handled by the current physics engine under development, perhaps a DMM system could be implemented to allow more interactivity with the environment and objects within?
The current system can be used to build anything you want and they will be interactive with everything else. You could build collapsible buildings, massive (or tiny) bouncy suspension bridges, ragdoll people, breakable barriers ect. ect. ect. Its more or less limitless, thats the beauty of it. Also i dont see how Digital Molecular Matter has anything to with it, thats an entirely different physics system all together.
That's good to hear at least. About DMM, I mentioned it because I was curious if they were going to implement it. I know it's different. Think about it.. Crashing a car into a wall and it destroys it. Or running into it at 10km/h and crumbling a corner. The effect doesn't have to be done in real-time. It could just as easily be pre-baked.
they already can do this. look at the video when they where knocking down barrels and street signs. Those structures took damage.
Knocking down a barrel or a sign is different to the physics holding together a suspension bridge. That said, I think the main reason why modern sandbox games (GTA, Saint's Row, L.A. Noire) don't allow destructible buildings is because it would cause Xbox 360s and PS3s to catch fire, fall over, then sink into a swamp. I wouldn't be surprised if destructible buildings didn't make it into the final version. But then again, I wouldn't be surprised if they did.
That's not EDIT: entirely what I mean. (Your still on track kinda) I'm referring to large structures. Also for reference, I also mentioned DMM which would allow solid objects to be broken/damaged and destroyed. So I'm kind of referring to two different systems that allows interaction with both the environment on a large scale (Buildings, concrete barriers through DMM etc..) and smaller scale (Small suspension bridges, colorbond fencing through their own physics engine etc..)
Yes you do have to admit that would be quite cool they could use a simple object destruction system like the world of tanks one WG are going to introduce to wot I could just imagine someone making a tank and knocking down skyscrapers with it hmmm I'm going to make a new thread about people making tanks P.S : I like tanks and WG is wargaming they own wot (World Of Tanks) One this forum I keep on fan girling so much ! At the moment I am crashing the T75 into some of East Coast's bridges and I thought that it would be incredibly impressive and gloriously joyful if those bridges had some soft body physics.
