I wanted to go further in 2-wheels modding and since I am more in LUA programming and beam+nodes phisics than 3D modeling, I got puzzled on how to make the pedals movement of a bicycle. I tried different solutions (a third pressureWheel, a rotator ...) then I went for the most complicated but best fitting the purpose: a steam train engine transmission, using hydros and slideNodes, activated by throttle. Actually what the legs do when pedaling. Here's the beams structure: there are two noded on the right, that slide on slideNode rails, pulled and pushed by hydros. The two nodes are linked with stiff beams to the pedals axle (on the left) making it rotating. I am also completely addicted to suspensions and their phisics so my ideal bike is a MTB or downhill one, with full front and back suspensions. Here are some screenshots of the bike in compression: Front suspension exploits the slideNodes idea I implemented for Motocross and Chopper. What also wants to do a MTB rider? Well stand-up to not hit his OO and crouch to popup wheelies! These I inherited as well from my motocross mod and adapted to the new frame structure. First preliminary results? Have a look! What next? The complete mod still needs: PBR materials Tuning of the parts attach strength, so that they properly detach during crash Try to implement a moving chain, I already know how to do it, but my fear is that it will require too many nodes, adding too much weight and counter effect to overall realism (the entire weight of the chain must be also be added on the other side, to balance the bike). Probably I will need to abandon the idea Add also a street bike variant and a cyclette (the latter just for fun crash purposes) Add detachable (in case of hard crash with heavy vehicles) helmets The actual engine! For the demo video I used the motocross engine in first gear LOL. Proper sounds, especially the chain one when you ride a downhill with stopped pedals Something else that will come to my mind while working.. NOTE: the cyclette is ready Download See Release thread Credits: The 3D bike models are unbranded and CC 4.0 licensed, I will post license links when mod will be completed. T.
ah ah ah this is nice suggestion! It can be added for sure, just to make it crush and detach in atoms
A brief update! We now have PBR materials chain sound helmet Climbing requires some practice though https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=494189082331407
Beam is a biking sim now thanks to you, and it looks amazing! Never thought bikes would look fun in a driving game, but here we are. Keep up the good work!
It will be paid but you won't get only the bicycles: see this => https://www.beamng.com/threads/motocross-motorcycle-paid.87500/page-2#post-1506241 T.
As a mountain biker myself, this mod is amazing! Maybe I could make a sort of addon map for this with mountain bike trails. One question, where do I download it?
That would be a good idea, but keep in mind that is very hard to drive two-wheels on BeamNG, you can make little jumps and run on some difficult terrains, but you can't do what you would do with a dune buggy . And steering wheels +pedals are mandatory to be able to fine control it! And yes... it is still WIP. I have completed Jato version, but it is too much wobby, I have to stabilize it the much I can. And I have to create also the street version... I hope to complete in a couple of weeks T.
