Not necessarily, depending on the mobo a new CPU could make a huge difference (and it looks like it sports the AM3 socket so it's most likely possible). I used to have an Athlon II X2 250 myself, all I did was put a Phenom II X6 and I was ready to rock. There's no denying threre are faster computers out there, but if you take a look at my results it's still going strong even though it's seven years old.

A totally different story is that your current CPU just begs to be overclocked. At 3,7-4 GHz it would handle two cars at over 100% speed with ease.

It's not only processors fault :/ My whole computer is a pile of crap. DEM SPECS:
    • AMD athlon II x2 245(Can't be overclocked because of crazy temperatures)
    • 4 gigs of ram DDR2 399MHz
    • Gigabyte M720-US3 motherboard
    • 512mb NVidia 9600GT
    • Loud and VERY slow 750GB samsung HD753LJ HDD
Its not worth upgrading or even overclocking(It requires additional cooling) Sooo I ordered a Lenovo Y510p like 30 minutes ago. Specs: i7 4700MQ , 8gigs of ram DDR3 1600MHz, GT 755m graphics card, FHD display and 1TB SSHD. I'll test it probably on wednesday.

I prefer desktops for gaming, but I don't know what else you're doing. But Lenovo is a solid choice and that laptop should be a substantial improvement over your old machine :p

I prefer desktops too, but I need a laptop for school. Buying a desktop that is slightly better than this one and a weak laptop doesn't really make sense so I went for a high end laptop
    My desktop: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/3481372?
    Y510p: http://www.3dmark.com/cg/1833840
My desktop got 1 point more than a random office PC so that's something :v

    IMPORTANT:
garyjpaterson could you add manufacturer and model of the laptop to each mobile processor ? That would really help some people.

I think that would be a lot of work, i mean most people havent listed the model of laptop they are using, so it would be difficult going back and finding out. I dont think its that relevant anyway, i mean the benchmark really only tests the CPU, the rest of the components make little to no difference. If two laptops are using the same CPU, then the score will be pretty much the same, providing no thermal throttling.

What you say makes sense. I'm having stuttering issues with my new GTX 770. I've been troubleshooting for two weeks without any luck. I'm wondering if the GPU is faulty or if my PSU is just barely adequate to simultaneously power both my CPU and GPU whilst under load. When I get home from work I will change my BIOS power settings to 'performance' to see if the default setting is the cause. I've tried everything and this stuttering is really making game play unplayable. I'm about to RMA but there are a few more things I can do...........

    -edit
OK so I'm not alone to think that the power mode could be culpable of my performance issues. I don't think I have 'eco' mode turned on and I think it's set to 'normal'. Will try 'performance' mode when I get home.

I can't wait to see the results of that mobile i7. I bet it'll have a hard time beating my 'pile of crap' that's been upgraded over and over again (which is what you could achieve by upgrading yours) :p.

I run an overclocked i7 4770k @ 4.0 GHZ. I am disappointed. How did the other guy get 98?!? I got 70 MBeams.

Nobody with a 4770K got anything close to 98MBeams/s. If you look at the image, you'll see that your 4770K is actually one of the better ones, getting a high Mbeams/s/Core/GHz ratio.

The two other 4770K's @4.0GHz have much lower results than you.

Well there you go, your CPU is pretty much on par with the top 4770K's in terms of Mbeams/s/Core/GHz, nothing to complain about now :p
