It would be great if there was an in game leaderboard system with times for scenarios or time trials with global times, maybe akin to trackmania. I think it would help promote a more competitive side to the game or speedrunning.
Yep, I play trackmania aswell and have the same feeling. ACC has an "event" part where there's leaderboards aswell. I've been thinking about this for a long time (even wondered If I could try to do something myself), I don't understand why they haven't given it a try. It would literally bring people to play the game more often and play competitively. Simple version would be weekly event, can do Time Trial, Rallying stages or even less serious like challenges "do this much in a minute". I don't really care about the last one but I can imagine it. (Separating players by input devices would be nice aswell, its hard to match the potential of Wheel + Pedals) Leaderboards are easy to do (compared to full online servers and sync, even though the community ones were fine for me) and would do great for the community. Hell for me its more important / fun than the campaign, but that might just be me. Kinda wish we get leaderboards, would spark the community a bit and I'd love to participate. I recognize it would require a bit of work time and investment from devs who are already working on other stuff.
Yes, this is great point. I really like the idea of daily/weekly little events like a time trial/rally/circuit stage etc with global leaderboards (similar to cotd in trackmania) or at least some way to compete with players and their times. The speedrunning community for beamng is pretty small and most people would not be interested in taking the effort to record and submit runs, so it would lower the barrier of entry to compete against others. There are of course issues like verifying the runs and times due to the non-determinism and I'm not sure how difficult it would be to implement officially, but I may attempt it as a mod in the future.
