I do, but it can be rather distracting when trying to do homework. I get nothing accomplished when trying to do work on my own computer.

My chromebook does have some annoyances put in place by the school such as no incognito mode (*wink wink*) and no developer mode which means I can't install Linux on it. The school network doesn't block any sites that I want to use though. (Just porn and stuff.)

    Re: General discussion chat

Since i am in sixth form the filtering system is ok(ish) YouTube is not blocked for me as well as many of the sites that are blocked for people lower down in the school. But its pretty irritating when you try to access a website to see sheet music from a music department computer and the websites are blocked because reading sheet music is "time wasting" according to the filtering system. But usually when i come accross a blocked website i just switch to my phone and let it get on with that since its unlimited data. I take a 12,000mah battery bank to school with me which means i could have my phone streaming YouTube for the full school day without battery issues.

The main thing that irritates me about that email is that the school is capable of doing every single thing they warn of. So if a student has a vpn service that they pay for that they trust the likelihood is that they are way more secure running through that than directly through the schools wifi unencrypted.
All computers in my school keep key logs of mouse location and button presses. So if an admin wanted to know your password to any website then they could just look at the keylogs. Since they log the IO they can re create whatever is being done.

    Well just looked it up.

    US 89 octane = 95 UK octane and 91 US octane = UK 98 octane is false. 91 US = 95 UK.

As far as i am aware its law that they have to do that. On our school network it is a built in feature of the LanSchool software package that is used.

    EDIT:
Just done a little research, i dont think it is law. But it would seem that it is not an uncommon thing. Guess its down to what the Admins decide.

    EDIT2:
Just been looking through the schools acceptable use policy
I guess that gives them the ability to do whatever the hell they want...

I know my middle school had the capability to see your computer screen in real time, and even take control of it. Not sure exactly the specifics.
In both middle and highschool there's debate to whether or not they can see out of your camera. Some people even tape them up. Kinda stupid imo. They haven't said anything about that, and nothing has ever happened to prove they can. Idk why they'd want to see out your camera anyway. It gives them no information. They'd just see someone's head in a classroom. They care what you're doing on the computer, not what you're physically doing while using it. And that seems like a blatant invasion of privacy. Looking what's on your screen and in your history is different. :\

I've accidentally moved my entire home computer history to my school computer because I logged into chrome. Nothing was there (I'm a good person. :p) they still saw every login and password I have anywhere. :\

Only thing my schools ever did was block websites, and have a program called deep freeze which reverted the pc to a specific state every time it gets rebooted (now I go to online school, so they cant do nothing :p)

The admins can take control over computers but they prefer not to because people freak out when it happens. So instead they usually just walk over to the computer and do things in person. We also have screen mirroring, the teacher can mirror their screen to any computer in the room (all of them at the same time if they want) they can also display full screen messages on screen. There is also an chat client as part of lanschools that allows you to message the teacher during a lesson, but no one ever does that mainly cause the teacher has to be in the same room to receive the message, making it a little pointless.

If the amins catch someone doing something they're not supposed to on their computers through the screen monitoring thing, they'd take control of it and open up a little chat window and pretty much tell you to get the fuck back on task.
2 years ago, after we won the grant for the computers, but before we got them, they said all of this stuff about how every teacher could see what you're doing on the screen, and they'd have all these super advance teaching methods on them and stuff, but they only ended up doing about 20% of what they said they would lol.

Well, the computers do have a program on them that allows the teacher to lock them and disable the internet connections and stuff like that but the only teacher I've had that actually used it is my photoshop teacher. (He disabled the internet on mine almost every class last year because I was on BeamNG and stuff. For some reason Halo CE multiplayer always still worked though. Plus I got Minesweeper on it, so I was fine whenever he did that.)

In 8th grade when I went to a completely different school my photoshop teacher there (His classroom had iMacs instead of PCs) and he called me a sociopath. For playing Happy Wheels on the computer.. (Literally everyone behind me was palying it at times. My computer screen was just easily visible from his desk.) Sometimes he would take control of my computer to yell at me. But they're connected through WiFi and one time I was able to turn the WiFi off. I got yelled at. I have quite a few stories about him..

My school PCs also have deep freeze installed. I found out how to get around it, by having an admin account I could disable it completely :p

    - - - Updated - - -

My school doesn't have any remote control sort of things, just deep freeze and the inability to do anything with your school-issued computer account. Both things I found a way around.
They also block websites, but you can still use VPNs or just use your phone.

My old schools only gave students access to students accounts (of course, because it is still a school, the admin acc pass was litterally just teacher (or at middle school, replace e with 3)) lol

My school only gives me access to my own student account as well. I used a Windows exploit to create a local admin account in my PC.
