I am in a dilemma. I have £600 to build this PC, I have found a graphics card, case, PSU and all the other things required, but not the CPU. My previous (current) desktop had a AMD II Phenom 840. It had intergrated graphics at first, which were s**t, but I got myself a ASUS Radeon HD6670 1GB DDR5, it works but I really think it is time for an upgrade. I'm not an expert on PCs however my friend works on PCs and will be willing to give me a hand building it. Now to the part where I want your advice. I could save money on the CPU and go for the AMD FX-8350, 8 cores, 4Ghz, etc. Save more money and get the FX-8320, 500Mhz slower but still fast, or do I go for the Intel equivalent, the i5-4670k? The Intel is more expensive and the money would have to come out of something (probably the GPU :/) but from what I have been told it will be faster than the AMD in gaming. And as I said, I'm no expert, TBH I'm not even 14 yet and this is my 2nd PC. So this is where you come in, Intel or AMD? Just an FYI the graphics card I'm looking at getting is the ASUS R9 270X 4gb edition, is it worth the extra 2GB?

    Many thanks
    Cam

Intel is better. Whether it's worth the price is your choice. You probably don't need a 4Gb video card. 2Gb works fine in most cases.

4GB is futureproofing, but on the 270x it doesn't make much sense as the GPU would be too weak for most things to use that much VRAM anyway. I'd recommend a 3GB R9 280 for a more balanced card. If you can't find one in your budget, get a 2GB 270x.

Simple...Intel...AMD is not what you need they are okay for basic stuff but Intel packs more grunt where you need it!

AMD cpu's are more powerful than Intel for a lower price, but they have reduced single thread performance. As much as I don't like Intel, I have to agree that it's better for BeamNG than AMD.

AMD cores provide a somewhat better power per dollar (or pound) rate than Intel, however Intel cores clearly and reliably overpower AMD cores by a good margin if you're willing to lay down the cash.
I would always advise an Intel core, as I made the AMD to Intel switch several years ago and remain thoroughly convinced. Unless you are desperately hurting for money, shell out the extra and get a more powerful Intel core.

I have the i5 4670k and it is a very good CPU. I have it at 4GHz and it rarely gets above 55'C. It was expensive but gives good performance in BeamNG. Also I use the Hyper 212 Evo heatsink, which I also recommend.

Thanks for all the input guys, I am very tight on money ATM , but from what I can see Intel is the way to go. I have found 2 packages from novatech.co.UK (got my old PC from them and it worked great) and the Intel 4690K package with case, motherboard, ram, PSU is £409, and that has a 500w PSU and the AMD package has the 750w PSU and is £100 cheaper. Would it be possible if I were to get the AMD package, and when I have the money, to upgrade to the Intel? If you go on to novatech.co.UK, got to bare bone PCs you'll be able to find the Intel and the AMD packages and possibly recommend a good package.

    Cheers

Intel and AMD CPUs use a different socket on the motherboard so in order to upgrade from an AMD CPU to an Intel CPU you need a new motherboard too.

Overclocking mobo with locked CPU? uhm. yeah. no. 4 GB of ram would be fine, but thats up to choice.

Basically, get a 3570K or a H or B series motherboard. Put an aftermarket CPU cooler in there too.

    Edit:

Id swap to 4 gb of ram and use the monies for CPU cooler

    I agree with above.

I game on an AMD PC. When I play on my Intel based laptop...with no graphics card, I can get higher frame rates.

    Graphics isn't everything.

He bragged about picking up an Nvidia GT610 GPU once so crappy might be understatement of the century, not surprised an intel system with integrated graphics outdoes a GT610.

Intel all the way I've only ever used an amd computer once and that was a laptop that would shut down due to overheating just by scanning the antivirus

AMD is way better bang for your buck and is pretty good... but the thing is that everything is optimized for intel and runs like shit on AMD, enjoy playing games from 2003....... and still having terrible lags (serious)

Nothing is optimised for Intel. AMD is just genuinely not as fast at the same clock speed. Intel is the genuinely more powerful setup. But that's kind of expected, AMD is cheaper, of course its going to be weaker.
