I6 imo isn't bad especially with @RyanCookie 's overhaul on the turbo models. It's the V8 that looks too bland and especially without the twin turbocharger components. V8 supercharger can get an extra dual pipe too.

unless i am mistaken, is it not literally just the grand marshal inline 6? it would not be terribly much effort to edit the midsize inline 4 to be a longitudinal straight 6. it'd take a bit more effort to put two of the 4 cylinders together to make a V8, but its definitely not unfathomable

I believe that you didn't need to make it a hardtop just to make pillarless doors. But Hardtop sedans are nice anyway.

Grand Marshal is a V8. It is using the Pickup I6 for the I6 base block. Also @CH4RL3S can use the Gavril V8 as basis and modify the supercharger intake pipes and not to mention import Bastion components for the V8 twin turbo. For the 3.5L V8 he can straight up port the Bolide V8 and copy the radiator too.

I figure that @RyanCookie has way better piping skills than I do.

yes its a V8 but the I6 is very clearly in the same family of engines, thats what i meant anyway. sorry lol
regardless, i wouldnt do any of that except port over the Bolide V8 model.

None of the GM engine designs fit this era of Japan.
the only way to do this properly is to edit the 96 pessima engine meshes for the purposes i have already listed. even though the diadem and the GM share platforms, there are a ton of reasons why it would not feature GM engines, namely emissions, fuel economy ratings, tax brackets, and more. it really would be beneficial to create a pessima based engine family specifically for the Diadem, and also cut back on the powertrain variation in terms of forced induction. Namely, the V8 would be quadcam and only N/A, and the petrol I6 would have a sport twin turbocharged model, with an automatic only. Offering a manual on this size and prestige class of car in Japan is economical suicide apart from like base fleet specs (and even those were basically all automatic) Also, the diesel inline 6 should probably be larger. i mean like, Japanese diesel motors were huge compared to their petrol counterparts. But, theres kind of an issue with that here too- and that's because the Diadem is huge for a Japanese fullsize. it even having a diesel option at all is weird, because this car kind of falls into the size class closest to the President, Sentia, and Celsior. Even those are smaller, though. None of them even had a diesel offered.

Rant aside, this is how id start changing things for the Diadem. ultimately, it'd be cool to see it get a distinctly Japanese interior, too.

Tbh I do agree with your GM V8 part, we could use the basis of the Midsize V8 models but using Bolide's Fuel systems as well as the pulleys too. The intake manifold can reuse the Bolide's intake minus the pipes. The headers can reuse the GM V8. For the supercharger we can use the similar one with the NA but adding a pulley as well as an extensioner belt and pulley to drive the blower. TT components can straight up use Bastion's mostly.

Aside from making the block that's pretty similar to what I did with my Bruckell Bastion Mamba 4.0 remaster too.

That all sounds right - the engine overhaul is planned to bring 4.0 to 1UZ level, 3.0 to 2JZ (GTE when turbocharged), and 2.8 is meant to resemble RD28. It's mostly there for "funsies", but Cedric and Laurel had it so it's sorta reserved for low trims. Manual transmission would also be lowest trims + GTz models.

what is the headcanon behind this meant to be?
is it sort of like a toyota lexcen or toyota cavalier, where ibishu adapted the grand marshal to JDM as part of some badge engineering deal?
(or was it just a shortcut to making a japanese executive car?)

Well, obviously a shortcut for making a Japanese executive car lol, but I've tried my best to make it as lore-friendly as possible. The story is that in the late 80s/early 90s (before the economic bubble burst) Ibishu really needed a full-size car for the market, yet they had good relations with Gavril, so they essentially borrowed the platform and re-engineered to their needs (Rear IRS, slightly shortened frame/body, their own drivetrain, exterior and interior changes). So it is sorta badge engineering but extra. At least this is what I have for now, feels like good enough of a story.

Added fender mirrors and rear end has been overhauled

Also, as @Kueso suggested i decided to make a new inline 6 engine based on the mk2 pessima dohc inline 4, i also cleaned up a few things in the inline 6 files

I love it! Also any ideas on Twin Turbos like the 2JZ-GTE?
