Absolutely. It's nothing but a stripped down and modified 0.3. As I mentioned, more cars were there than just the D-Series (Moonhawk, Covet, etc). It's fun as my first taste of the old BeamNG, but it's literally just so the YouTuber can get more views.
here's what i think, feel free to correct me if i'm wrong. imo i don't think this is fake. the august 3 2013 dates seem to come from the game being installed & played on that date (although i will admit it's strange that the game was not actually installed until the date that 0.3 released) in the copy of 0.3.0 that i have, i had the actual setup file -- while "0.1" was already set up from the get go. here's the large separation from between the files which do not have their dates changed when installed to the ones that do (seems to only apply to folders) more proof of the folders dates being changed (0.3): moving to 0.1, the same large gap is present: back to 0.3, thought i'd mention the cached files as well, which of course are generated when needed -- so we can't really judge using their dates: the *.cached.dts files are what the game used before .cdae and the "imposter" files seem to be textures generated (or imported??) when loading a level -- seems to be basecolor (do not know the proper term, going off what beam calls it now) and a normal map additionally, there is a cache clean tool (cleanup.bat) in the game, which does as you expect. here are the results of 0.1: does not seem to be perfect but it does remove a lot. those *.hlsl files seem to be cache files aswell (i think beam still uses them?) imo whether or not its fake should not be judged on the file dates (in this case, anyway), but rather its content. all of the vehicles beside the pickup, covet, and grand marshal don't seem to be in their final (or near-final) state every other vehicle in game that is unfinished seems to have finished or near finished body shells (excl. semi and pigeon), but their interiors are pretty much not there at all, at most being a steering wheel. also ought to mention, there are moonhawk files left over in 0.3: for someone to spend this much time on something this niche seems ridiculous. so many strange changes like indicators activating whenever you steer or the cranes being removed from the port in industrial, the pigeon's tailgate being made extremely unstable, or even the vehicle's steering breaking half the time when spawning -- i doubt one person would think of that. although people will do anything for attention, so there's that. but why try and gain attention on an old game version which only a select few people are searching for? why not something that's more relevant?
There's a vehicle selector in this build? Sorry if it's a silly question, but how would one go about using it?
nah there isn't, but there's still a way to spawn vehicles. open world editor (F11) and in the scene tree, go to the library tab, then go to level > beamNG > beamNG vehicle. double click it and select your options and there you go. tab still works as the keybind to switch vehicles
Knew it. --- Post updated --- Okay, here's what I'm truly thinking: some aspects of it are undeniably fake, like the title screen and perhaps the edits to Gridmap, but the spawning issues with the D-Series make me much more inclined to say it's real as not even the techdemo did that.
When you start the game or when it crashes, the ,name starts like BeamNG.Drive, but 0.5 seconds later, it switches to BeamNG sandbox. The default commands are wasd. Beam has never been like that (ever)
I thought the internet archive would have some of the older versions, but it doesn't. Only 0.3 and techdemo v2.1. Even archives haven't gotten a hold of the older versions.
the title change seems to also occur in 0.3. in terms of the wasd keybinds, i think it could be explained by the free cam not existing (or at least, not having any keybinds by default) in 0.1. the moveleft, moveright, moveforward and movebackward are the keybinds for the freecam movement. also i gotta mention how broken the freecam is in 0.3 lmao:
Why was the file why was the file keyboard mapping changed im September of 2013? Beamng was already out by then and the 0.3 file is older?? That doesn’t make any sense. And why would he download the game but only install and start it THE EXACT SAME DAY as the beamng 0.3 release? If he was so active to have been able to downloaded it within a 5 minute period of time, he should have been there when BeamNG 0.3 went public. --- Post updated --- does the car drive when you move in the world editor? --- Post updated --- Didn’t the forums go live in 2012? He said that he downloaded it when the forums went public
none of the files in my screenshot say sep 2013, 0.1 on the left stops at may 10 2013 while 0.3 on the right stops at aug 3 2013. i do agree it's strange that whoever downloaded it didn't install & start it until 0.3's release 2nd point: it does. i also found out freecam actually does exist, although its only accessible in the world editor under the camera menu, and it does have the same glitch that 0.3 does that i showed off in a previous post 3rd point: yeah i forgot about the reddit post honestly. i'm thinking that maybe they just didn't know when the forums went live. no way to tell really. it's also strange how the link has been removed, not sure what's up there would any of the devs mind confirming if this is real or fake? it's pretty hard to tell now that i think about it. many things that seem to indicate it's real (to me, anyway) but there's some odd details
The beamng updater is still there, and when you launch it, it asks you for your BeamNG serial number. This could also have been there before launch, to prevent leaking, but this is just a speculation. If the devs are reading this, please help us --- Post updated --- At one point I had beamng 0.3 0.3.1 0.3.3 techdemo v1 and v2 on my hard drive. yes, i don’t have it anymore. But I do remember downloading 0.3.0 on itch.io
I'm not really sure how you would've downloaded BeamNG back then, but i'd guess that it might've been due to user error and they downloaded the wrong version. They also might've just seen 0.3 release and thought about trying 0.1 before spending time downloading and updating to 0.3
Hot tip: you can add more maps to both of the techdemos (cars are an entirely different beast) --- Post updated --- Also, Dry Rock Island looked like this a decade ago... I took this on my phone (internet has been down for a while)
surprising discovery: the sauce for the 0.1 title screen image - you can see it here on the post dated mar 23 2013: https://www.beamng.com/threads/first-map-dry-rock-island.264/page-4 (interestingly, looks like the map was called "abandoned industrial site" at first according to the reply headers on the first three pages. was changed to DRI around late february: https://www.beamng.com/threads/first-map-dry-rock-island.264/page-3) file in question is called notindustrial2.jpg, you can also see where it would be in this old blog post: https://web.archive.org/web/2013032...ies/32-Industrial-and-the-importance-of-stuff here's the two images side by side
