The 1991 BSTC (BeamNG Super Touring Championship) Race Pack The Download (zip) is attached at the bottom of this post. So, first and foremost, a disclaimer; this is not finished. It is far from ideal but I have decided to post it publicly in it's current state as I don't see me getting it finished in the near future. All it's doing right now is collecting dust on my HDD so to speak, I've spent the best part of a year on it and I'd rather people get some use out of it until I can come back at some point and finish it properly. What's in the pack so far? Currently, this "pack" contains the Pessima 2.0 ZXi TC and its road going homologation trim, dubbed the ST91. For reference, this build was based on a cross between the Vauxhall Cavalier and Toyota Carina from the 1991 BTCC season. Spoiler: Parts Information This includes the addition of custom body parts such as; - Revised front and rear bumpers (with optional ground effects, and custom fog-light blanks) - A revised front grille - Headlight covers - Re-designed 'aerodynamic' door mirrors. - Front and rear sunstrips, side window banners, and dashboard stickers. - A roof aerial and a light with no particular purpose. It also includes a new engine, built specifically to suit the 2 litre Class 2 Touring Car regulations, as well as a side-exit "boom tube" style exhaust. There are 10 racing liveries, all based on the real ones seen in the BTCC in the 90's, although I have taken care to properly parody all of the logos and branding. This is where most of the effort was spent, and the liveries are arguably the best part of the pack. Spoiler: Livery Information Each livery belongs to a respective team, with some being teammates and others being privateers. So far there are 7 teams; - Ibishu Motorsport (#23 & #24) - Ibishu Motorsport UK (#4 & #9) - Roy Syston Motorsport (#3 & #33) - Starr Motormétier (#1) - Janssen Alieu Motorsport (#14) - Racing Team LaserWolf (#13) - Bradford Brittain Racing (#21) The liveries also belongs to their respective drivers, whose names appears on the rear side window and centre of the dashboard of every car. Besides visual differences, all share the same exact tune and mechanical configurations. On top of all that, I had written a couple pages of "lore", describing the teams, drivers, seasons, and the various sponsors seen on the liveries. I won't post that here, but for anyone that is interested - feel free to send me a PM. What's missing? For the Pessima, it's still missing a few items. Namely; lightness - it needs to lose some weight as it is currently far too heavy. It is also missing a fuel cell, an improved gauge cluster, and other miscellaneous interior equipment which I had initially intended to borrow from the newer '96 Pessima. Also being a mod primarily developed for my own enjoyment, it isn't exactly accurate and has been tuned to favour my particular driving style. Other cars besides the Pessima are missing too, see below. Future plans & what I want to do eventually. (^A collection of rough configurations used as test cars, these aren't in the pack yet^) Through development and research, the scope of this pack broadened rather quickly. Spoiler: The Broadening Scope I had always planned for the Pessima to go up against the I-Series and the Legran, with me basing them on the BMW M3 and Volvo 850 respectively. I then decided to branch into the 1990 season, the one before the current, as a sort of 'prequel'. I added the Covet (Honda EF Civic based) and the 200BX (Mazda 323F/Lantis based) to the line up and I realised what I actually wanted to do would require some time to sit down and work on it in parts over the course of a year or so (something I am unable to do currently). To accompany this, custom race scenarios were on the to-do list as well. I want to build almost a complete race season across all of BeamNG's asphalt tracks, with trackside sponsors and 90's era branding. The TL;DR The mod isn't finished, "life things" got in the way and continue to be in the way, so I'm releasing it as-is. Please have fun with it. Please don't steal anything. And I might be back at some point to finish it. Also, feel free to ask me anything, on this thread here or in a PM. Here's also a UV Template for anyone interested in making liveries to fit the parts I've added. Look at the liveries I've already made for reference, they use another material for the custom parts.
Have been keeping a close eye on this one as im a huge BTCC fan. Looks awesome mate cant wait to try it out
nice does the driver janssen have anything to do with me or is it just a coincidence I don’t see my name on the internet much
They do, yes. It was no coincidence, and I hope you don't mind. I like to make references to people on these forums sometimes and I think your name must have been in my subconscious while I was coming up with ideas for drivers. Most of the names are a reference to someone or something actually. I had planned on having a couple other users in there too at some point but only one made it into this current line-up.
Great work! The car handles very well with enormous front end grip, just like a FWD touring car should. Reminds me of the RaceRoom WTCC cars. The best handling FWD cars in the game without any doubt! I´m not sure though if they already had sequential shifting in the early nineties? And I wondered why these cars are lefthanddrive when they are in the BTCC and from Japanese orign? Edit: if you look at pictures, the Nissan, Toyota and Vauxhall all were RHD: http://touringcarracing.net/Pages/1991 Cars.html Edit2: this is from the supertouring regulations http://www.supertouringregister.com/regulations/ Gears must be selected by the driver via a direct, mechanical linkage system between the gear lever and the gearbox, (electric, hydraulic or pneumatic mechanisms are not permitted). The maximum number of forward gears allowed is 6. Semi-automatic and automatic gearboxes are forbidden. The drive train concept, i.e. FWD or RWD must be retained. I´m not sure if this rules out sequentials ...
Thank you, the setups never were all that polished (I'm very inexperienced with tuning) but if you're enjoying them then that's great. The '88 Pessima isn't available in RHD, so it simply isn't RHD. If they add RHD to it in an update then I'll make the touring car RHD (there are also RHD mods which you could use, I don't want any mod dependencies which is why I haven't) - The same also applies to the other cars I plan to have on the grid, besides the Covet. Also, I never explicitly said this was the BTCC, it's only heavily based on it, hence why I called it the BSTC (BeamNG Super Touring Championship) which isn't specifically British. This was mostly for "gameplay reasons" as most (all) of BeamNG's tracks are in the USA. It'll be more like an alt-universe, vaguely European, touring car series that also goes to America. Well, it's not electric, hydraulic, or pneumatic, and the only thing selecting the gears is the driver. So as per the rules, it's allowed? Maybe '91 is a little early for a sequential though. Looking at Wikipedia, apparently only LMPs were using them up until the mid-nineties. I think that I may have made a biased decision simply because I like the noises the sequential makes. I'll add changing it to the regular 6-Speed onto the to-do list for when I get back to modding.
I remember that they started using sequential in 93 or so in BTCC,maybe a slightly earlier application won't be a problem. Also, the original track version Pessima is equipped with sequentials(The I series doesn't have one as comparison),so it fits the lore as well.Totally reasonable.
UPDATE Just added a UV template to the main post for anyone interested in making liveries to fit the custom parts I made. I'll add it here too anyway. No progress on the mod besides this I'm afraid.
