Greetings friends, I am trying to clone the Italy map to use as a base (I want Italy terrain textures, ground cover, objects etc in my map). I am doing the process exactly how I've done it before (Copy+paste vanilla map into mods folder, unpack, redirect files with Notepad++), however when I go to load up the unpacked Italy map, the game crashes and closes down every time. This has not been a problem on any other template maps I've done.
I am wondering if there is something different about the Italy map that I am not aware of. Is there any reason why cloning Italy should not work? I have a brand new PC and it is very high tier. I run BeamNG on absolute maximum settings with a fps over 160+ with absolutely no issues. BeamNG is incredibly stable on my system, so I know it's not that.
Alternatively if I can't just use the Italy map as a base, I would like to extract all the content from the level and have it in my own, but using an Italy base seemed like the more straightforward method.

tl;dr: is there something different about the Italy map that requires you to use a different process?

    Thanks

I've cloned Italy without any issues.

Glad to know that it's at least possible then. I just don't have a clue what I could be doing wrong. I've cloned maps probably close to 30 times now, from memory, and it always works just fine, however when I try it with Italy (I've made several attempts) I have problems.
In the level selection screen, my cloned Italy map has a blank black box with a little 'image file' icon in the top left corner.
Then inside that, the spawnpoints still have their Italy images, but all the spawn names are written in a strange way.
"myMapName.spawnpoints.runway" for instance, instead of simply "Runway".
Then when I click a spawn point, it goes to load for a second and then the game just closes down. All I really need from Italy is the terrain brushes (such as the grass and rock for instance). I know i can take 3D objects from Italy because I've done it already.

Thanks for the reply friend, I am encouraged to know it can be done.

EDIT: the crash report gives me error:
    BeamNG.drive 0.27.1.0 0x00000001
Which appears to be a generic error code for simply closing the program, which I am not doing.

UPDATE: I have learned that I can successfully clone the Italy map, and load it in game, but ONLY when I skip the mass rename process in Notepad++ and load it with all the Italy references intact.
This is telling me that there is some file somewhere in there that does not get renamed by Notepad++, possibly a different file type that is not being checked or something. Could I be on the right track here?

And just like that, I am over a huge hurdle. Thanks bro, I had no idea this tool even existed, but it's so good it ought to be built into the game somehow. Even just making a new level, this makes the process so streamlined and quick. Thanks again Ferrito.

No worries. I completely agree. Kudos to AlexKidd71 for making it. Glad it helped.
