Hi Guys, BeamNG Drive is getting better with each Update and i already mentioned its potential of recreating racing games from the past in a former thread. Today i had another idea. Why isn´t there a Cannonball Game / Simulator and wouldn´t BeamNG Drive be the perfect platform for it? The biggest maps afaik is Roane County with 175sq. With nine Maps (Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Colorado, Utah, Nevada/California) of this size 1350 miles of Highway would be possible, which is about half of the real distance of 2794 miles from New York to Los Angeles. We aldready have traffic and police in BeamNG Drive and working gas stations are around the corner. Basically the only parts missing are dynamic weather and a day / night cycle. That would be a blast for sure!
That seems like a beast of a map to run, though might work. Also, we already have working gas stations as well as day/night cycles! Now all we need is weather
I feel like driving games that offer more support for large maps and official multiplayer would be a better platform, tbh. I'm also a bit skeptical about your assessment that 10 maps would be enough to cover most of the physical distance between NY and LA. Sure, Roane County has 200 miles of roads, but unless you're requiring the player to double back and drive each and every individual road, the player would probably only travel 10-20 miles per map (not that this sounds bad, 20 straight hours of driving in a videogame sounds like it would be hell ). The police might also be a problem. Right now, there is no proven strategy that works to clear the player's wanted level. Neither speed nor aggression nor elusiveness will lose the cops for long. And that's not even considering the psychological/stealthy means of avoiding police attention that the Cannonball Run is known for, whether it be driving an ambulance or wearing disguises. There's definitely no simulation going on for that.
