usualy manual is the only one i play. but some cars dont have it. so if i have to i play with the arcade. but it defenetly sucks. often the cars just change gear into 4th or 5th and the realistic is just stupid. sorry maybe its just me but i live in europe and i v never driven something like this one. you put all gears up to go to 1st ? and then down for second and then one down and it switches to the arcade automatic ?? its just stupid...
What? You go up once and it goes into drive. Simple as fuck and how a real one works??? Its also not the arcade automatic, brake remains brake instead of becoming reverse, much better.
you go one up and have arcade automatic then one up again and you have 2nd and then one up and you have 1st .... for me this is useless....
Thats how real automatics work, you have park, reverse, neutral, drive (what your referring to as arcade auto), 2nd gear, and 1st gear Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
So you still haven't realised the D means drive and it will shift gears automatically for you, that's why it's called automatic gearbox.. The 2 and 1 are just there so you can "lock" it in gear I believe.. Usually you'd just put it in D and not bother with the 2 and 1.. I never drove an automatic in rl but it's not that hard to understand, is it?
How does someone not know how an auto works? Even if you've never driven one. How? How did you think an automatic works, as you seem to be calling the drive gear in beamng "arcade", meaning it isn't like a real one.
Really depends on what I am doing. If I just want to screw around usually it's the arcade but if I'm trying to see how a car handles and deals with different scenarios usually it's the real auto. Also really quite confused as to how it's so hard to understand an automatic transmission. Yes putting it in D is similar to the arcade setting but I think it shifts much more realistically in drive than in arcade. Also the second and first gears are for when you need to stay in the lower gears say if you need to keep the revs up to get out of some hole or something. Sure it's easier to do this on a standard transmission but autos exist because it makes it easier to teach more people how to drive so they can get more cars on the roads faster and make more money regardless of how dangerous it is. I think (especially in the US) everyone should have to learn how to drive on a standard transmission, because being forced to do that would in some instances curb distracted driving some just because you would have that one more thing to think about instead of just letting the car do all the work.
How are automatic transmissions dangerous? People will still text and drive with a manual, especially once they get up to speed and can stay in the same gear. And it doesn't matter what you learn on. If someone learns to drive on a manual, but gets an auto, they are gonna drive it like an auto, not a manual.
I do know how a real automatic transmission works, but without the linear selector, or at least an image of it, it becomes a bit unintuitive to cycle up and down with keys, especially when I've forgot which mode I'm in and the UI is off! For testing stuff like refining the jbeam on my mod, arcade mode is handy, but for real driving enjoyment, manual trans all the way. The up/downshifting on autos is sorta broken anyways, not enough lag between changes so the cars just hunt gears all the time instead of accelerating properly.
Can confirm. I tune the automatics to work better for my driving style so I use the Realistic automatic when at all possible. Its so nice to have a real transmission in a game for once. I wish GTA 5 had a tranny that would kick down when cruising like in GTA 4 or in .Drive.
Arcade Automatic. This is a game... Manual is just a pain to use and kinda pointless. Every other car game I've played uses this "arcade automatic" system so I'm just used to it. Kinda off topic in general, but I don't see this game as a serious driving simulator. If you want that then do drive your car. It's a physics simulator. If I play in a 'fake' transmission type and use an Xbox controller, this game is a blast. I don't really see why everyone complains about how realistic it is/isn't.
I play in realistic automatic because I like to be able to hold the brakes after I come to a stop. And I just like it more. More possibilities and crashes and stuff. If the car is manual, I play manual. It's just whichever transmission the car has.
My personal opinion is realistic automatic or manual if available i don't really like arcade as you can't put it on the brakes in drive on arcade and you can test how well it revs in drive (to adjust the torque curve) to give it torque at the right rpm
You go up 1 and you have drive not arcade... In true drive you have realistic shift points for low and high throttle allowing kickdown and proper cruising (arcade auto doesn't do this on the manual cars leading to them bogging down easily). In true drive, hold the brake, the car stops and remains stopped like on a real auto, it doesn't then shift into reverse like the arcade auto unrealistically does. Remain stationary and in drive, the car doesn't actually remain stationary, it rolls forwards as the engine idles and the car is in first gear, this is the same as a real auto. Locking into 2 and 1, used for towing, crawling from tricky spots and soft starting on certain surfaces (lock to 2 when pulling away on snow and ice for instance). Seems to me you don't have a clue how and automatic car really works, in which case you might want to review where the stupid lies in your post because its not with the realistic automatic.
