I have a file for terrain depth.. how do I assign it to the mission file. my mud is called "Mud" and after restart save and all that jazz it never has depth please help I've looked all over and nothing I can find helps me. edit just did an 8 bit graysacle png for (mapname.tern.depth.png) shaded the areas where there was mud as dark gray and nothing... how can I add a depth file to the mission file (USED GIMP)
It has to be called the same thing as the actual .ter your mission uses, check the DRI one out and do the same but change the name to suit your terrain file. It also has to have no alpha channel.
Yeah. Another thing to check is the actual location of your .ter, make sure it's in the level folder. If you create a new terrain it will put it in \levels. So: *correct name, eg "yourmap.ter.depth.png" (the name is of the .ter file, not the actual map; they can be different) *greyscale (RGB will make it completely solid regardless of the actual pixels - the mode has to be set to RGB, it has nothing to do with the colour of the pixels) *no alpha channel (it's the alpha channel that's important here, even if there isn't any transparency in the image itself the presence of the channel will break things) *same size as terrain texture (I think? make it the same to be on the safe side) *white is solid, black is something like 10m deep)
well... let's just say I've done that from the start. sorry but I don't understand, do I make it RGB or Grayscale? also idk how to set it to 8 bit export in gimp.
I think he meant greyscale, not RGB. I don't use Gimp, but apparently it's the same as in Photoshop, Image > Mode > Greyscale. Should be 8 bit when saving as PNG. If it still doesn't work, post the image here.
i have the same issue with understanding this, i copied the east coast map and flattened it so i could make my own map. i olso have the terrains depth PNG which i made completely white but now if i color some sand paths grey they have no depth, can someone please tell me what i need to do from start to finish. i have the white PNG depth file (attachment) opened in photoshop with some grey areas, now how do i get those grey areas it to work as depth in-game? that is all i need to know thanks in advance for the help people!
