Hello everyone. Those who understand. Please tell me! I don't understand in which 3d editor I can create the terrain myself? Or. How can I edit already existing maps, namely this incomprehensible extension ".ter"? Maybe there is some kind of training material? Thank you in advance!

.ter terrain files are generated inside the world editor from the terrain block. If theres a 3d model that you want to be your terrain, you could make a heightmap from it and import it that way. As far as I know, theres no tool to edit .ter files

Easiest thing to do is delete the terrain block,. and import in a PNG that is Power of 2 and square with the import terrain tool. What is white will be what is tallest, and what is black will be the bottom.

Oh, almost forgot... Dont delete the "warning material" until you added at least 1 texture that will replace it. Or you getting a crash
    Typical map sizes

    1024x1024
    2048x2048
    4096-4096
    8192x8192 (max)

And you will need to use some slight smoothing tool to make smoother...

Dont forget max height and map square size too.
You can make a 4096 x 4096 maps have a .25 square size and get a 1024 x 1024 map, But you will have an insanely smaller paint brush and terrain tool brush size.

Be sure to give yourself headroom for a max elevation. If you later decide after the fact you want that hill to be 200 meters high and you set the height to default 50, you will get ugly hole when the elevation is clipped beyond max.

I realize the portrait is not a proper elevation map. Including a screenshot of how to set Blender if you familiar with Blender..

Oh, never import a new terrain block if there is already one in the scene. While you may can get the game to glitch and have 2 terrain blocks.. The space time continuum will explode... Dont do it :)

What is the best way to get a good scale of the map? I have a 8x8km map that has a height difference of about 1600m. What is the best settings for importing it? And is there a way to overlay a map image onto the terrain? I think I remember one overlayed in the Tail of The Dragon Map.

If the heightmap is 8192x8192, you might be able to import it as a terrain, however, 8K terrain is very unstable, and could crash any time. You could downscale it to 4096x4096, and import it, but set the meters per pixel to 2, therefore doubling the terrain. If you do that though, you'll lose detail in the terrain, so it wont be as smooth

I downloaded terrain from skydark.pl I think. The image size was 1082x1082 (or something close to that, it wasn’t 1024x1024). The image I downloaded was in the other comment.

If its an 8kx8k region you selected, but only got a 1kx1k image, you should be able to upscale to it 4k or 8k and use it fine
