That would be cool! Maybe in the future I can do it I don't know how to add it :/ maybe someone better than me can help me with this
Sure thing. Not exactly, the roads themselves were pretty nice. Was able to travel a long distance without popping tires. Here are some pictures to illustrate my points. The first one is the skybox issue I am having. I deep cleared my cache (the one that fixes textures and such) and still have this issue. Not exactly sure why. The water seems to have it too. These other two are the smoothing I was talking about. The rough/steep sudden inclines mess up the bumper on most cars, basically anything that isn't lifted. Smoothing these out would make the driving experience better.
I don't play AC anymore so I'm not familiar with this map whatsoever, but it would be a very impressive map if ported correctly. My main issue with this map currently is the filesize. There's simple ways you can do to reduce the overall map folder size, like having textures in good formats (a 100MB .png file???). You can save up a lot of strain on hardware if you put them in .DDS format. you can use paint.net to convert them easily (BC2 Linear, DXT3 should work just fine). Another thing you can do to save up some space is to export your .DAE files with Blender 2.81 instead of latest version, because the Collada exporter has changed over the years, and the older one seems to be much more optimized. 2.7GB is just way too much for what it is now, but I cannot know how many leftovers there are in the map folder currently, and I'm being pretty unfair looking at it unpacked, but unpacked gives a much better idea, as I cannot imagine how bad loading times must be trying to load the map as packed. Here's a quick look how much you could save on just a few files: I'll admit it doesn't look much at first glance, if you add it up on all files It will reduce your final map size by a lot, especially if the current version doesn't has everything in the files yet. I hope you can take these things in consideration proceeding forward with the port, and I wish you all the best with it.
The map is basically done! I've updated the first post with more information, screenshot and a driving through traffic video! I'd love to hear your feedback on the progress so far. Also, let me know if you'd like me to release the map now in its current "incomplete" state, or if you prefer me to finish adding all the small details and finishing AI paths before the final release.
So far looks like makin good progress but personally the road textures in the city looks to rough or too rocky imo
Improved the road marking textures (screenshot with before and after) and started adding some highway decals to further improve the visual experience!
I never thought my former home country would even get a map inspired by it in BeamNG, let alone a one-to-one recreation. Is there still more completed content left to import into the BeamNG mod or are the unfinished bits not yet filled in in the original mod? Also, if the mod author won't give you permission to release this for free on the forums, you should suggest the idea of making it a paid BeamNG mod with a royalty arrangement, as he might be more open to that.
Although I am still missing some details to import the original map is far from complete, "floating building" and unfinished roads Are also present there. Lately it seems that the author has been focusing on other maps and left this one on the sidelines. I am doing my best to add new details and improve many of the original textures (e.g., the road texture was flat, or there was no horizontal/road decal or road signs present, things I am working on adding), since HK has always been my favorite city I am doing my best to represent it as best I can. In the end I think my map will differ quite a bit from the original considering all the improvements I am making so I think he will be fine with the release. I don't know if the original AC map will still receive updates, I am however purposely leaving all the files "open", meaning that if someone better than me wants to help me expand and improve the map, they can do without any problems. My ultimate goal is to expand it to the Shenzhen border, but it will be hard working alone
Also, does the BeamNG map in its current state lack trees and have mountain roads floating above the hills in most places, or is that just a problem on my end?
Yes, in the latest version trees are missing and some roads don't follow the shape of the terrain, that's how the map was made (but i think is noticeable only in a few places). Anyway, small update: The map is 100% imported. I'm working on AI paths and adding various trees and vegetation plus some props that I modeled in these days (such as barriers to mark closed roads and those cute orange trash bins).
