I made a proof of concept map using geometry exported from google maps. I've realized that using the terrain object is the best way to go but I also wanted to have a tunnel through a hill. Can terrain have tunnels?

Yes. Either when you import the terrain you can import with a hole map.

Or, you can build the hill, then use the delete terrain tool to remove the relevant bits.

You will need a tunnel as an object. You can get them from other maps or make one in blender.

Thanks. Before I got messing with the terrain in my actual map I would like to just make a new empty map, put a piece of terrain in it, and play around with it. Unfortunately I cannot figure out how in the world to do that. Can you give me some info?

File > New Level doesn't seem to work.
I opened a map named small grid instead.
There is no "add terrain" or anything like that. I tried "import terrain" and chose a random image but it didn't seem to do anything however now the car does not collide with the grid-ground in certain places anymore.
I tried Edit > Rebuild Collision and then a giant rectangle with "no material" appeared but it seems this is not a terrain object because none of the terrain tools work on it.

Trying to import other random images like textures from other mods as terrain just crashes beam.

It's a bit overkill for what you want, but hopefully this helps.
