It's one common gauge lights texture that all the cars share. All I do is make some quads and map them to the appropriate parts of the texture and place them in the gauge cluster (floating slightly), assign them to dummy materials, then use the glowMap system (which is what triggers the car's lights) to swap the material from invisible to turned on depending on the input source. The alpha channel of the texture is what gives the lights the shape/transparency.

You could import the .DAE of one of the official cars and just copy the "carname_decals_gauges" mesh and reposition its components to match your gauge cluster. The material names are all global so the only other thing you have to do is copy the glowMap stuff from the car.

Those are just a texture (with a bit of glow). The needles are a mesh, placed and rotated in the 3D program, and then you pick 3 reference nodes on the node/beam chassis that form a perfect right triangle. The pivot has to be centered to the needle properly (so it spins around the right axis). The positioning is gotten automatically from the mesh but you do have to set the rotation manually, and then calibrate the animation to match the gauge texture.

Will it be possible, to change rotation pivot for some objects (for steering wheel for example?)
P.S sorry for asking so many questions:eek:

Yes, of course. You just set the pivot in your 3D editor and place the steering wheel. As long as you have some ref nodes on your vehicle to make a right triangle it's placed automatically and you just have to input the rotation in the vehicle file. Also, the amount the steering wheel turns can come from the steering beams themselves, so you can install a different steering rack to have tighter ratio steering (and the steering code adjusts accordingly for keyboard/controller users)

Does the headlights cast shadows? Is it possible to change the mode of the light beam, or it's just ON/OFF?

How well do the headlights cast light? In RoR they would cast over random polygons on the other side of the map, how are they now?

Yes, they cast shadows, and with no noticeable performance impact either. You can change the inner and outer cone angle, range, attenuation, brightness, color, and more.

    Woohoo! Night picture!
Lovely work, & loved hearing (reading) that the (head)lights had almost no performance impact!
Also, good questions Kryotex, giving a nice insight into how it (dashboard gauges) works.

Will the angle of the beam of light change after an impact? It really annoys me how in most games the beam of light never changes, even when the light is pointing in another direction.

If the light is assigned the same way it was on RoR, then probably yes.

Gabe, you should post a pic of a close up of a wheel so we can see how many polygons it has (sort of) :D
