So I've seen this pop up in the update threads and I looked around to see if anyone else made a thread and cant find one so I figure I would start a discussion about it. I'm still getting used to the changes in shifting mechanics and figuring out the new limitations. I've noticed the devs talking about how they will be tuning individual transmissions for each vehicle which will be a huge improvement in immersion. I just wanted to know what everyone thinks and what they've learned so far and how they've changed their shifting practices. I use a Thrustmaster TH8A but I seen a dev talking about a force feedback shifter? Anyone have one?
I think it's a neat idea for realism sake, but I'd like to be able to turn this off. As a user with keyboard that can't register down and left arrow and gear down key at the same time, I have to say that it's slightly more annoying now.
As a workaround, you could reassign the keys to a combination that your keyboard is happy with. This depends from one keyboard to another, so it cannot be generalized. Higher end keyboards allow more varied combinations with more keys per combo than others. Here's a website to test what your particular keyboard can do: https://www.mechanical-keyboard.org/key-rollover-test/
I hate the new system, I just want the old realistic mode back. The new one can just be cheesed and change gears instantly on any vehicle. It kills immersion. The only scenario in which it makes sense is if you own a H shifter, but even then it should be optional.
My only complaint with the new system is that it's no longer possible to 'float gears' with the T-series trucks. Using an H-shifter, i loved being able to match rpms and glide through the gears with heavy loads, and now everytime i do it, i take synchronizer damage even if it's synced perfectly. Im really hoping that the devs will see this and modify the T-series transmission to allow it once again. It really takes away from the immersion without being able to shift a semi without the clutch, as the real ones can do.
