Early Experimental Preview of Career Concept

    The issue we are avoiding here is related to spawning semi trucks in driveways - the environment art doesn't support this currently, so for now we are leaving all heavy-duty commercial vehicle sales to the Commercial Garage location only. It's a robust way for the game to ensure large vehicles have a safe location to spawn in, without sticking through garage doors, trees, fences, barriers, etc :)

    Possibly we could buy them from places that it makes sense for them to sell semis, like the port, movie studio, or construction site?

    This is planned for down the road - to buy buses, taxis, ambulances, etc from areas that make sense. Trailers and trucks from the container yard, steel factory, and more for instance. For now though, you buy them from the Commercial Garage as we focus development on other features! :)

    Hey James I have done some tweaks as well and I was getting the D series and H series in private. So it's an easy fix. I also added service vehicles to Jefferson Motors. We need D45s and H45s in career mode, but this change also added busses(which I don't mind). However I am disappointed I couldn't deliver cargo with the bus. And another change I will suggest is adding miles to the trailers. We need used trailers.

    It's great to hear that you were able to easily modify things to do what you wanted, great stuff!

    Regarding the trailers and mileage, we agree, due to the development cycle of the last release, we only had access to trailers for a very short time so it was a stretch to even get them into the Career Mode build in the first place, but we absolutely want to include mileage for the trailers don't worry! :)

    What about reducing cost so a "2023 Small Flatbed" does not cost 30,000$+?

    Not sure if it's been discussed, but I would love to see some sort of dynamic street racing system where you could maybe instigate a race with someone at a red light by honking or revving your engine to prompt you with a dialogue that would allow you to initiate a street race, which could maybe give you some options (drag to next light, race to random predetermined location, first one to 100kmh etc.) Then maybe an option for the wager: money, skill points, or pink slips.


    This could also maybe be used as a cool way to unlock contacts for other missions or jobs? Maybe contacts could have a unique vehicle that only they will have so you can tell who they are from their vehicle? Would be cool if you could run into a guy who maybe owns a local tuner shop and if you get to know that person and do work for them maybe you could earn a discount at their shop for example?


    Would be cool if there were some sort of random event system sort of like RDR2 for example, where say maybe you could come across a random car meet which could also be a way to meet contacts, or buy or sell vehicles or parts? Or even just as something to populate the world to make it feel alive.


    Really excited to see where you guys take this, so many cool possibilities.

    Hey! Thanks for your awesome questions and ideas! Yes, we're looking into having random races against special ai, but there are some tricky technical things to figure out, especially with loading times. Injecting vehicles randomly might cause delays, and we're brainstorming how to smoothly integrate them – like maybe after the player completes a challenge and hits "Continue" the game could spawn a random traffic racer during the fade to black. But we're considering different scenarios, like what if the player misses it or heads straight into another challenge, or doesn't enjoy street racing in the first place, now there's another car taking up CPU and memory for nothing!

    Right now, we're focusing on core rewards and progression, but we do have plans for more-casual drag races with basic traffic – honking at them while driving, red lights, these sorts of things? It's on our radar, just not the top priority at the moment.

    I'm super excited about adding more random events, and your ideas and enthusiasm are awesome! Keep 'em coming!

    Kinda like NFS Underground2, Carbon, and other NFS games? With the Ai randomly driving around at 60+ and challenging them on the fly?

    You could also make a toggle or option somewhere to disable these "random encounters". Also any progress on the replayability for update 0.32?

    I think we need a 5000lb Ibishu warehouse forklift... with all the fixings. Counterweight options up to 8000lbs, diesel, gas, and LPG engines. Different masts, forks, fork extensions, warehouse and offroad pneumatic and cushion tires, manual and automatic transmissions. Just think of the shenanigans.. I mean gameplay opportunities that would allow.


    Any business that receives any serious amount of freight could potentially justify having one, maybe you could take random quick jobs unloading vehicles? This is one thing that could be "gamified", for example a truck loaded with pallets could have them simply spawn at the back door untethered to the vehicle (for a box truck). Flat decks could obviously just be accessed from the sides. Then the freight would just have to be placed in a specific position or area.

    Imagine for a minute, one little game or mission has you unload as many trucks as you can within a certain timeframe. A truck pulls up, the state of the load changes from secured to unsecured, you are then prompted to unload, which you do, the truck pulls away and drives out of sight and despawns as another that was waiting in line pulls up and the process repeats.

    This could be expanded to other material handling equipment if time and budget allowed, container handlers, container cranes, truck mounted cranes, piggyback forklifts, etc etc.

    Also, I just wanna slam the stupid thing into second gear and send it over the speed bumps on gridmap to take out all of my pent up ex forklift operator frustrations. With the potential of node and beam triggered sounds, I can even imagine the sound of forks clanging with every bump.

    It just seems so fun when you think about it that I almost wanna beg for it.

    Sorry if I'm a little fuzzy, what are you referring to in regards to replayability for update 0.32 exactly? :)

    Believe it or not, I have spent a fair amount of time playing with the idea of managing a logistics or trailer lot.. something along the lines of, "There are 15 trailers, and we need them cleaned up!" and varying combinations of trailer types (hitch, gooseneck, 5th wheel) requiring different vehicles. This falls in line with the general, "deal with the things as quickly as possible" or "clean up this mess" sort of gameplay that I believe is achievable with enough time and future vehicle development! When it comes to forklifts, this is the sort of thing we would all love to see, I know there is a mod or two out there but I haven't had the time yet myself to check them out, but I love seeing pictures of them on socials. Cranes, towing vehicles, lifts, etc., are all an exciting way to chuck things around in videogames, and although they aren't currently the focus of career mode (due to them not existing at the moment) they are something I hope we see sooner than later if we can!

    I meant anything from delivery improvements, more missions, or new things such as AI races, taxi missions, etc.

    And there is a forklift mod on the repo, that still works.

    Oh, I see now! (Blame it on the weak coffee yesterday!)

    We're making some great strides with our delivery gameplay, and some really exciting updates have just together today for us, especially for vehicle and trailer delivery. But it's still a bit early to dive into specifics.

    As for AI races, Taxis, and the like, they're definitely part of our plans, just not the main focus right now. But don't worry, they're on the horizon. Our team is grinding away on gameplay elements while juggling other game aspects. So, while we have big plans for Career Mode, remember that development can have its ups and downs.

    Right now, our focus is on "finishing up" the cargo and trailer delivery aspect of the Labourer Branch. As for what's next and where we'll be with the Motorsports Branch in the short term, it's a bit too early for specifics.

    I want to discuss the topic of UI scaling. are you guys planning on making everything Bigger, because right now, on my 4k monitor, the UI is tiny! i like the flexibility in freeroam, but the important stuff in career would look so much better in 1440p, or 1080p. is the switch to VUE going to benifit us in that regard?

    and at the same time, playing on a small screen (1366x768 in my case) results in an excessively cramped UI, you can barely see the map screen behind the delivery menu, for example.
