Ya cuz that's definitely the response a truthful person would give. Whatever man I'm done here I have zero eggs in this race but I really feel bad for whoever paid money for your mod.

While I am sad IF something happened to your family, that is no excuse for delaying the mod's release for several months. Most likely you have fabricated this story in an attempt to force people to keep paying you money monthly. If not, this is quite a sad attempt at doing so... using tragedy in your family for your own personal gain.

I'd say there's reason to delay the release of just a normal mod, because, as he said, it's a video game. HOWEVER, once you cross the line into the "pay me for beta using a monthly subscription" territory, and you're promising people updates on your Patreon but going completely dark and silent on BeamNG, well.... you crossed the line. If you're actively messing around with people's money, that's where it starts to get a little ridiculous. Nobody cares if you start a WIP mod and go dark and silent for a couple months. But this guy is still accepting payments from hopeful individuals waiting for an update they'll probably never get. In business, if you were to open an online store, accept payments for a product, and then just not deliver under the guise of "well my family all died from a falling piano" well then you need to momentarily close your store or grow up and continue to deliver products regardless of which 3 stooges ass way your family died. Personally, I'm guessing this guy is just lying for whatever reason to continue to get payments from people who signed up for his Patreon. A lot of em probably subscribed so they're sending him payments monthly, and the longer he can pad the development time for this mod the more money he gets. I've seen many people do it. It's a common trick. But, as I said, I have zero eggs in the development of this mod, I look forward to either being proven wrong or finding out I'm right.

Holy fuck I was right. I was right. Oh my god. He's making $1,100 a month untaxable income from this charade. When does this become obvious to everyone else tho that's my next question.

to make this worse: im pretty sure thats way more than what the minimum salary was in Poland around July 2023... which, when you consider that, could very well mean that the guy is just straight up doing this on purpose. in which case, shame on him.

Pretty sure it is. It's also actually pretty close to a minimum wage full time job over here in the states. And when you consider it's completely untaxable that's easily $14,000 a year if he doesn't gain or lose any subs.

So wait at what point does this break TOS? Because if it doesn't this sets a new precedent entirely. Not that this is exactly new, I've seen people do it, but a full 2+ month PAID absence on behalf of the mod maker, like when does that become against what the mods here stand for? If I were running this site he'd have been gone a long time ago.

Yep. Probably doesn't cut it anymore. It is mediocre at best, it was going to be from the start, but waiting as long as he has to release it it basically tells you everything you need to know. Also 14k is fucking nuts. I don't know of a single mod on this platform worth 14k.

It's not like a single person ever paid 14k for it.
It was a conscious decision made by individuals who purchased a subscription to OP's Patreon.
It's their money and they are free to use it however they wish.

Is it nice of OP to delay the release for years? No.
Did he force people to give him money? No.

Nobody is debating whether or not he forced them to give them money, that is what we call in the industry a bad faith argument, and it's a fallacy.

Let me give you an example. I used to run an online store, it wasn't too popular or anything, but I'd get a few orders a week. Now, what if, for whatever reason, I took a 2+ month hiatus and ignored all of the orders and never made any attempt at communication nor delivering the product? Well, people would be upset, naturally. Promising a product, accepting payment, and then going dark and silent is what I'm arguing is wrong here. It's a dishonest way of making money, and in some ways it's illegal. I'm not saying we need to get the BBB involved here, but what I'm saying is promising a mod and then disappearing is one thing, but fooling around with people's money is something else entirely. It's dishonest, and the fact there's no mention of the hiatus or absence on his storefront, and all of his subscription options have remained available for purchase ever since his family was raptured, would warrant a level of concern from really anyone, even people like me who, as I said numerous times, never expected/nor paid for this mod in expectation of it being released. It's dishonest, leaning towards a scam, and the fact he's still promising updates/release of this mod is the icing on the cake.

Sure, you could make the argument "well nobody was held at gunpoint" ya that doesn't exactly change the fact he's charging for a product and not delivering. There are probably a lot of people here who bought in early expecting a quicker release after he has a financial incentive to work a bit harder on the mod. And their reward for generously donating him money for a few months? Radio silence for roughly 2 months punctuated by "sorry my family died from an accident involving a comically large spoon" among other ridiculous excuses.

I really think this whole thread is an excellent example of why there needs to be some paid mod reform. Why would anyone think it's okay? That's completely disregarding the fact he's using a stolen model and textures and so on and so on. It's just poetic how well this entire thread has been turned into an example as to why Beam needs to fix how they deal with paid mods, and arguing "well nobody was forced..." doesn't exactly change the fact that it's morally wrong and very dishonest.

This was the inevitable conclusion of paid mods on a massive scale. And shills will still shill, whether it's for a corrupt company or individual.

I just talked to a few of my friends who paid for this mod, and they told me it's nowhere near paid mod quality. That's just an opinion, though, from 2 people, so do with that as you will. Could just be buyer's remorse but they tell me it's about as meh as you'd expect. I haven't used it, though, and those opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. Regardless of the quality, though, still leaves a very sour taste in my mouth how he's gone about this whole thing.

will this have openable latches when fully released, bc as @ohvalls was saying, its a bit annoying paying for a mod that isnt equipped with the basics, like opening latches, also idk why, but for me, the textures are really low qual (im using ultra graphics). ik it takes a long time to make a mod and lots of work goes into it, but its pretty annoying when not only a custom built mod isnt up to 0.31 scratch, but also when the other mods are heavily needing a revamp (especially things like the sbr engine model, fixing the intercooler on the 2j (its floating way above the car for me) and maybe openables on the sierra 2018 too)

They're complaining the car doesn't have openable doors and the textures are low quality, and that it's annoying that a mod like this isn't up to date with BeamNG 0.31 and its features. He also mentioned Bailey's other mods also needed fixing.
