I bought BeamNG drive today (07.12.2014) And was excited to play, i have played the tech demo so i knew it was awsome. But some things i am verry dissaponted by! For instance the traction the wheels has to asphalt is absolutely ridicoulous! It's like driving on ICE. There is no traction at all! (is there a mod to fix that?) And the suspesion, its so fucking bouncy, which means its impossible to drive straight on a road and off road. But lets all hope that the devs will fix this in a upcoming update. So i think i will be sticking to Rigs Of Rods if i want a realistic driving sim :p No seriously, the devs should have fixed this as fast as they found it out!

But all in all if we oversee this huge fault's its a very good game, i have been following the dev updates for a while now :)

The tire model and friction aren't perfect by any measure, but they're still pretty close. So as to eclipse the meaty bulk of the crapstorm this thread is likely to quickly become; if you have numbers to show BeamNG Drive is in the wrong, present them.

Traction is pretty messed up but you failed to mention the tire model which is by far the worst drawback atm. But saying that it is still leaps and bounds ahead of RoR's tire model. That's not even debatable.

"the most realistic softbody physics. ever"

    Yes, That was mentioned

    "The most realistic driving physics"

    That, was not.

    Terrible argument.
    No points.
    No comparison.
    No sources.
    0/10 would not read again.

Nobody said anything about this being a perfect driving game. It's still in Alpha, there's still room for improvement and loads of development left to be done for overall polishing of the game. If this bothers you, don't buy games that technically aren't finished.

Hi, I just wanted to say that most communities don't take kindly to the center of their existence being insulted. idk, just might not be the best idea to come in and aggressively diss the game.
It's softbody physics have no equal in the game world, the tires are screwed up. It's getting better though.

I just bought the game and though its missing alot of enjoyable and simplistic things you can find in RoR I quite enjoy it to be honest.

While having an opinion is valid and okay, I don't know why you bought this alpha version of BeamNG thinking it would be already completed. Yes BeamNG isn't perfect, and yes the tire model needs some work, but I'm not sure what you expected. I'm not sure why you though the demo was better, but it is inferior to the current experimental version. Also, coming onto the forums just to point out all the bad things about BeamNG like other newcomers have is pretty stupid. I'm not going to turn this into a rant, but this sure wasn't a good way to introduce yourself into the community.

Also, as far as I'm concerned, the cars do not drive like they're on ice, they're fine. You're driving a regular street car, don't expect it to have the cornering ability of a spec racecar or magical hover suspension.

The tire model continues to get improved, we know it has it's faults, but it's not as bad as most make out to be.
Not once has BeamNG claimed to be the most realistic physics engine and have the best driving physics.. :p But hey, it definitely is up there when it comes to simulating the whole vehicle right? Not many sims do that.. The tires are slightly holding back, but we'll get there.

Please remember that BeamNG.drive is far from completion and is still in the early stages. Lots of changes are yet to be made.

The ice part is slightly over-exaggerated, I can corner and pull 1G. :p

    Thanks for the feedback.

Suspension bounce doesn't seem to be cars fault, rather the maps seem to be bumpier than reality

Most maps don't have perfect roads, but bumps and holes by purpose. It seems quite realistic to me that the vehicle start bouncing when you go over a bump at full speed.
I daily drive in a section of road that has similar bumps, and going over that a at +40kmh gives simular results as in BeamNG.Drive.

As for the tire traction, it still needs some work.

    The title is over exaggerated.

The traction and handling is actually more realistic than you think.

Happens with everyone, the problem is you don't realize how fast you're going. There's no motion blur to give your mind an idea of your speed. At first with this game I was pissed with the handling, then I took a look at the speedo and I'm entering a hard corner at 60mph in a heavy pickup. Of course the thing flew off the track.

Cars aren't bouncy, the roads you are driving on is really excessively bumpy. Try roads like the one on East Coast, it's a lot better maintained.

Yes, work needs to be done. But I'd say it's about 70% accuarate to real life.

I wonder how are other games doing it? Just motion blur all over?

Does anyone care to research this a bit and maybe do some screens from other games - that would be very helpful! :)

    Got you covered

    EDIT:
    http://graphics.cs.williams.edu/papers/MotionBlurI3D12/McGuire12Blur.pdf
Ended up finding this PDF of virtual motion blur. I don't understand any of it, but maybe you or Estama might.

It should also be noted that Torque 3D doesn't natively support motion blur. But I don't see why it can't be added after the fact.

I think that the cars in this game already feel pretty fast personally.

Also, a lot of games use fake speed. Watch videos about it in GTAV and you'll see that 300mph is only something like 1.2 times as fast as 100Mph. Also in nfs most wanted 2012.
