So if you have many mods and go to mod manager to do some cleaning you got this problem that most of them don't have image to identify it. and the zip names are different sometimes for the car name for example. The idea is simple, In car/map selection menu where you can see what car/track is with images, is to add a button to delete mod.
This button already exists, it just takes some basic knowledge to know the use of it. Next to every mod you install, (unless its a third party mod or a bad automation one) they often share the exact same name. One button unpacks and packs the mod (dont use this if you want to delete one) and the other one is either "unsubscribe from mod" or "unsubscribe and remove mod" (this is the one you want to use). From there, deleting mods is as easy as the click of a button, nothing more, nothing less. If you're unsure if youre deleting the right mod, i tend to sort my mods by date downloaded, so that i can go back and check out what i commented/did that day. Adding a picture to your mod is not something people usually do, and neither is it required. Let me know if you have any other questions, or if i misunderstood anything
I'm talking about third party mods then, I have 200+ cars added and most don't have any description/image. that's why It would be way easier to identify right in selection screen where you can see all cars. a button after selection the car with first click or in each image top corner for example with X to delete and confirmation message
Third party mods are usually pirated, low quality and stolen, and its best to refrain from using them
define pirated? conversion from another game? conversion from a free mod from another game? outdated game? are we missing the point? even still for those non "pirated" mods that work with unsubscribe option you still have to go back from selection mod, enter mod manager, wait, scroll, find the mod by the image/ name/date added and so on.
On-point: If you can't remember the name of the mods, it's the users fault. From another perspective it makes it easier to mantain and control mods, so its not a bad idea even if its intended use makes it easier for you to use third party mods. Off-point: I'm talking about leaked patreon mods, leaked private mods and tons of paid mods that are way lower quality for their price range. I can't force you to stop using third party mods but what you're doing is harming good modders and instead promoting reuploading and greedy people by adding a number to the "downloads" tracker. All in all it's a dumb thing to do because most of the mods aren't up to standards with those of the forum anyway, quality over quantity
modland reuploaders dont usually put a big "LEAKED MOD!!11!11!" in their title, making the difference between leaked and not leaked very hard to tell unless you're actively on modland searching for mods. again im not trying to say you do it im saying there is a risk that isnt worth taking and the feature you are requesting is basically you saying "im too lazy to remember mod names because i download to many third party mods, so please double down and make yet another option to delete mods/maps easier"
I export Automation cars to BeamNG all the time, and I also edit their 3D Models in Blender to polish the exported models a bit. Sometimes, when fiddling with things such as animated fixtures (steering, speedo needles), I forget to give these exports their unique names, so they are most likely using the default Automation name and separated only by a number. I have a mod library of over 150, and this makes it more difficult to find the mods in the mod manager due to them not being named distinctly. It's pretty much agreed upon by the entire community and the devs themselves that the UI itself is unoptimized to the point that it lags even when you look at it funny. It would be really handy to just have a "Disable Mod" option within the vehicle/track selection screen because, in that screen, you can actually view the image of the mod instead of having to scroll and click on every single mod in the mod manager due to the name not being shown properly. What risk? If you are talking about not implementing this feature due to it being beneficial to those who use pirated/leaked mods, then you are honestly reaching. This is the equivalent of saying that kitchen knives should be banned worldwide because they can be used to hurt someone. If anything, this is such a big QoL feature and shouldn't be that hard to implement, even in a minor update. In fact the entire mod manager is need of a desperate overhaul at this point.
If you're going to take that approach, mind you that 10% of beamng mods on modland aren't stolen/leaked. The rest is just reuploaded garbage, and you're basically insulting every non scammer out there. IMHO it's a big "fuck you" to the modding community, seeing as you'd rather support theives and buy 20 dollar meshslaps over 3 dollar much better ones. It all boils down to your preference but i agree that the mod manager itself needs a revamp
Pirates or not, a more functional and optimized mod manager would be really helpful, especially as I tend to find the button to automatically check for broken mods will also include a solid of 80% mods from my downloads that might be a little old or unsupported but could still be working. For me it's hard to make a connection between the community having more ease of access to be able to clear up their storage for functional mods as well as make the game more efficient to run, and piracy of payed mods going up.
