The recent update added the ability to add to and edit multiple decals/nodes at once for the decal editor. This is very handy, but to my knowledge, adding onto 2 separate decal roads at once to keep the same distance only works in a straight line. When you start to curve away from the straight path, it does keep the same distance, but does not rotate along with the curve. A solution in code to fix this would be very convenient. My solution to this problem takes a different approach entirely and could make workflow faster in many cases. Would be cool to be able to split a decal road "longways/vertically" or "down the middle" to create 2 new decals with the center line of each new decal being at the edge width of each node from the source decal. Along with this, the option to choose the direction of each side would be nice to for the sake of road edge texture directions and variation. EDIT: Thanks to stuffi3000 for making this a reality
What would be great would be to be able to add another decal to an existing one but with each point displaced along one of the axis. This would allow you to place multiple additional ones alongside the main one. This would be good for a number of things, not least road placement, but also using the spline to object tool.
Yes this is what I mean! As in my screenshots, the first is the parent decal. The second is as if the nodes were generated at the node width extent of the parent decal. Would be great for making the edge and line decals on a road or as you stated with the object to spline tool for things like guardrails, lightpoles, drainage, etc...
You're right, I just suggested the same thing as you. So yes, completely agree with you. Devs, if you're reading.... this would be great (for you guys too!).
Hey, I know this thread is already old, but I developed an extension/addon for the World Editor, which you can use to do exactly what you're asking for (and more). It's available in the World Editor section of the Forum: https://www.beamng.com/threads/release-world-editor-extension-road-edge-generator.98175
Thank you!! I ended up creating a Blender geonode setup that does it for me. I will definitely check it out though. PS: I use your mesh decal road convert on the daily. Thank you for your work!
