I bet there's a really simple fix for this that i'm not a aware of, or simply couldn't find a fix for. I tried searching this forum but couldn't find the right keywords for it or the thread simply doesn't exist yet.

Anyway, when i exported the D series bed from blender then it developed these weird lighting issues, it's especially apparent on the dually side extenions (either it's very light or very dark), the regular D series next to it is fine and the this weird lighting exists in blender too so i imagine that's where it comes from.

If you're using Blender, look for edge split modifier

try the "invert backface normals" checkbox under the advanced/all layers section of the Material Editor... that always does the trick when I'm having a problem keeping the material lighting consistent.

If you're comfortable with it, it may be more helpful if you uploaded a blender file of the project or the mesh itself so we could see what's happening on a geometry level. It wouldn't need to be the whole project, just one of the relevant meshes would be enough.

EDIT: one thing you may want to consider looking into is the UVs. Weird things tend to happen to the shading when a normal-mapped material is applied to two consecutive triangles, but the UVs for one are either zero-width, or are flipped compared with the other. This is usually the cause of the shading errors on official vehicles along the vehicle's centerline: the vertex normals are having to account for the same normal map, but applied in two different directions.

While i was installing the blender jbeam editor then i realised i'm still running the old Blender 3.3.0 build, updated it to the recent 4.1 version and started from scratch. This fixed the lighting issue for me now and it's just like the D-Series now.

Thanks for the help anyway :D

(also do you happen to know if there's a way to import multiple jbeam files at once and also export in blender, currently i can only do it one by one. Even when i have multiple jbeam objects selected and press export then it only modifies the selected one (although it says it exported all of them).

You've got me beat. I'm still holding out on v2.75 for some reason :D

I'm afraid I don't know too much about the jbeam exporter, both because I'm using a much older version of blender, and because I don't tend to use it all that often.

Yup! I only post a few times a week these days, and it's been years since I last uploaded any mods. I do have a thing or two coming down the pipeline, though...
