Tell a car fact that you know! Might be a less known fact or a known fact! It can also be a weird fact too lol. --- Post updated --- A fact I know that an average vehicle has about 30,000 parts.
I got this particular cool fact from working on my Major Design Project for Design and Technology (yes, I am still in school) The first ever successful usage of downforce on a racing car was in 1963, when ex-Formula 1 driver Jim Hall realized his sports prototype, the Chaparral 2A, was getting too light in the front end at high speed. Seeing this, he placed two large fins on the front of his car and realized that the air pushing down on these fins at high speeds would, in turn, push the front end of his own car down towards the ground, increasing grip. These fins were, quite possibly, perhaps the first ever recorded instance of the usage of canards on a racing car. The Chaparral 2A then went on to win the 1965 12 Hours of Sebring. In the rain. Heavy rain. On the bumpiest track in North America. (The Chaparral 2A, car number 66. Note the large fins on the front, from what could possibly be the first ever canards used in motorsport history) It is also worth noting that Jim Hall, at this time of writing, is still alive today, and has been given significant recognition and fame for his efforts and legacy. Legend.
Actually, I also just realized, shouldn't this be in Off Topic: Automotive, instead of General Discussion? --- Post updated --- Sh*t it didn't combine the two posts into one (... you know what, fine. Feel free to put that last sentence in BeamNG forums out of context)
