Why couldn't the original rest area have been kept the same? It was so nice I'm not sure why the decision was to make it abandoned
It was one of the first things I added to the map and for a long time I wasn't satisfied with it due to the placement being away from the town and having awkward connecting roads. All of the immediate surroundings have been changed in updates but it was lagging behind. With the map's latest update adding PBR and replacing a lot of the textures, it was the final push needed to change because it wasn't fitting great visually. The current abandoned look of it isn't final, it'd probably get overhauled along with the nearby farms if I ever got to it.
It's actually River Highway, this was the WIP update thread. unyxium should probably try to contact a moderator (CK likes to help with stuff like this) and rename the thread to "River Highway Discussion" or something like that.
Nowhere in particular. It is the US but since I don't live there I draw most of the design from misc. images and looking around on Google Maps, very roughly the eastern half.
Great map, one of the best maps, the best replacement for american roads, what was my number one map in the past.
I have a MASSIVE problem with the latest update, it got updated in the content manager just fine. But it's now completely UNPLAYABLE due to the terrain being completely missing! I'd hate to validate the integrity, because it takes FOREVER!
can you open up the console immediately after loading the map (accent/tilde key), i'm curious if there are any errors reported. Sharing a screenshot of that could be of great help. Internally in v1.6 I changed the terrain name and data. I don't know if it is related. It is now called `new_terrain` instead of `huge_world_terrain_125`. Resolution was also increased via a Python script I wrote for it so the grid size went from 2m to 1m meaning there are now 4 times as many grid cells.
I ended up fixing it myself, i (somehow) had an old, unzipped version in the "levels" folder while the updated, zipped one was in the "repo" folder. Obviously, i deleted the one in the "levels" folder and voila, i fixed it!
v1.6 has been spectacular thusfar! I was running the external highway and ran into this oddity. Apparently underlying textures are blocking the tunnel on both lanes and, if hit, will yeet the vehicle into total destruction. Found out originally doing an AI pursuit and watching my fleeing car get shot into the tunnel ceiling and just barely being able to stop. I have deleted and re-installed after running a cache clearing and it still exists. Just wanted to bring this forward so it could be addressed. Even with that small hiccup I am loving the map and have not found any other quirks quite yet.
even though this project is still in beta, this map has easily been my favorite beamng map for around 2 years now, and finnaly got the chance to drive around it again after a year of major pc issues and ive been loving the new locations and details, though i am kinda upset at the removal or mass changes from locations that existed around a year ago, such as the og highway rest stop, it was mega fun swinging outta there as hard as i could and parking all my stuff there but seeing it updated to be abandoned with the road connections severed hurts, tho i can completely understand if it made infastructure weird or non functional still would be nice to see it back again, it was a good spot, other than that i cant wait to see what else comes in the future for this project, its really impressive!^^
It's the terrain, tunnels need to transition through holes in it. It seems during the update to the higher resolution terrain this wasn't cleaned up. Expect an update to be available within 1-2 days.
Hopefully the map is stable enough to go for a while without needing much attention. I've uploaded a patched version (v1.7.1) which may be approved tomorrow. I just don't have the time for making this map as good as I'd like, I have so many other things beyond this game that take priority. The decisions I made years ago are coming back to cause issues now and the amount of time to fix them doesn't seem far from redoing completely. Taking on a project of this size as my second mod? would not recommend. This project is something I come back to once in a while, it isn't something I can be constantly working on. It's not abandoned.
I don't know if I can do anything with this information or really help yet. If you are able to get the console open to show the map logged as it loads, it could be helpful. The other thing you could check (unless you already did this) is to download and run v1.7 of the map to help narrow down on what could be the issue.
Should I suggest that some of the gas stations should be replaced by newer in-game models? Also, I wonder if it's possible to find a good railroad crossing signal model to add to the crossings.
https://www.beamng.com/resources/river-highway.18662/historyImproved --- Post updated --- Replacing a lot of the models is what I'd like to do and yes that includes the fuel stations although it's not the highest priority. The worst models gradually have been replaced though. I've looked before but didn't find anything which means I probably have to model it myself. Though if anyone else wants to contribute it, go ahead.
