So I have a windows 7, Latitude 3540 laptop. There are 4GB of ram, intel core i5, and all that jazz. When I go to download It downloads but says I need the new directx. I have tried windows update to update directx (its directx 11) and it wont update. Am I capable of downloading Beamng drive or not? If I am what do I have to do to download this game because I would really like to play it (not I am just trying out the tech demo, does that make a difference Thanks for the help :)

go to your root beamng folder (in steam, right click beamng, go to properties, go to local files tab, then click "Browse Local Files")

then go to the "_CommonRedist" folder

then "directx" folder, then "Jun2010" folder

scroll down until you find "DXSETUP" (or "DXSETUP.exe" if you have show file names enablde)

run that and it should install the correct version of directx

I'm pretty sure they haven't made the game compatible with dedicated laptop video cards yet. My graphics card just shows up as GFX null device and I have seen another post about the same issue also a laptop with an onboard card and a dedicated video card. Though my card and the other persons card were both Nvidia cards so it may just be dedicated Nvidia cards that don't work yet. Although my laptop greatly surpasses all of the high end requirements I have to play in windowed mode at 720p or less with everything on lowest or off in order to not drop frames.
Its an awesome game if you can get it to not drop frames and have a steering wheel or xbox gamepad(the only currently supported gamepad), though with dropped frames or with a keyboard its currently uncontrollable. Hope you have better luck than I did(can't wait till its compatible with my video card)

it has nothing to do with that, it's just the way nvidia optimus works, you have to tell it to run beamng with the nvidia card, it won't just automatically detect it as a game for some reason

also i don't see a beamng.drive badge, please activate your account, or buy the game then activate your account if you haven't bought it already

I have told it to run the game with the video card it still does nothing and does not help. No matter what I set it to it does not help. I have made a post in the questions and support page but got no helpful responses. I haven't purchased the game yet due to the tech demo not working and getting no info from anyone to help figure out the problem.

    Disable Optimus entirely.

As for the OP's problem. DirectX 11 makes zero impact on BeamNG as it is not backward compatible with directX 9 at all, you do still need upto date directX9 regardless of whether you have 11 or not.

You can't actually disable Optimus(at least not with a Toshiba laptop with Win 8.1) although after hours of research I found you can bypass it by setting the controls in the Nvidia control panel to always use the Nvidia card and run the system from a monitor plugged directly into the HDMI output. Which I was already doing but I didn't know that it bypassed Optimus. I also removed the graphics card drivers and reinstalled them directly from the Toshiba website using my model number to get the right drivers. The only thing left to do that might help is to completely reformat my computer and reinstall everything. I have found many things that can be done to fix the problem if it as optimus problem, the only answer that I keep getting is if these solutions didn't fix the problem then it's not an optimus issue its a compatibility problem. I am still going to format and reinstall everything but I don't have the time to do it for a while. It might not be a compatibility issue it could be a problem with Toshiba, Nvidia, Windows 8, or the two GPUs but regardless of if its an issue with the game or not I have had nothing but problems for a year with this thing and I need to stop typing here or Ill go off on a rant that does not belong here.

Also thanks for trying to help I did find a couple of new possible solutions but they didn't help much

I've seen the game running GPU accelerated on an optimus equipped laptop, whatever the issue is, it isnt the game.

One thing to check. Have you perhaps accidently switched the power plan into Power Saver, change to High Performance mode.
