Did a couple more windows defender scans and it's still saying it's alright.

After testing the damage on the mod, and surprisingly the body actually is separate from the frame, I'm beginning to think it's stolen.

My reasoning being a few years ago I downloaded a Koenigsegg Agera R mod from modland on a separate computer. Didn't get a virus but I learned that it was stolen and leaked from the original author. I think that's what the case is here considering (so far) no viruses have been found and the mod is decent quality.

I think the original is actually a GTA V mod

Yeah, modland might be full of bad mods, but the creators actually make basic irl cars, while the beamng forums, has very few, and a lot of Irl car mods in beamng are mostly supercars. (e.g., I saw a dodge ram and Acura RDX mod on there)

DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING TO MODLAND!!!, It's a site where they disguise viruses as mods, and when people click on it, a virus is sent to their computer that wipes out their bank account, steals their information (stuff like your ip , location , etc) and theres also 18+ ads on there do dont go there

Sorry to bump old threads, but its very very hard for you to get a virus from a file that you dont personally run (like an installer).

If the files you download are just random car files from a folder or a .zip that the game uses to load a mod, you should not (*) get a virus on your computer, but then you deal with something way worse: A modland mod on your game.

*: It IS possible for the virus to be in a format that you cant run but the game will execute, this is also how .dll text file viruses work, but this would also require the game to load it without any security check which also would mean a security flaw in the way the game loads files, so while it IS possible and unlikely, it would require a security flaw or oversight on the game itself to begin for this to even happen.

Computers nowadays are VERY good at detecting viruses, so much that they give false positives sometimes, things got way better compared to the old Windows 98 or Windows XP days :p

Well, as a player with many mods, some do come from this website. So you can find some decent ones, but you need to at least know were your going, and what is a ad, or what is not.

Well, as a player that has even more mods, i can agree with your statement.

But still, even when downloading a mod that you assume to be safe, there is still may be a virus in it (i have experience in that), so, if you dont want to gamble with your pc, just download from repo or forum.

True, so an extra safety precaution you could take is inspect the zip folder, for any exe's or ini's or other creepy file types.

    Wasn't that through social engineering?

No, he clicked on a download link that redirected him to an external download for an ad-heavy scam site

    upload_2024-9-20_15-12-48.png
See how it says "external download"? Clicking the link takes you to another link, it doesn't download anything. He then clicked on an ad that made him download a virus disguised as an OperaGX installation file. And this is why EVERYONE SHOULD USE ADBLOCKERS ON THE INTERNET.
Then he tried again and the "external download" was just a youtube video.

Yeah, what you gotta pay attention to, specially if you see ads, is that any "external download" can be any link the creator set it up to be. Could be a virus, could be porn, could be a bank phishing site, a rick roll, or scariest of all, a link to download a modland car. I dont think modland automatically checks. Always be careful about those.
