Hello, I am determined to create a map of my hometown and want to start with some sort of heightmap to import. Does anyone know if this is possible; what file type I need and where it would go? Thanks
I had seen that you can import a black and white height map into beamng as a terrain in the world editor, I was never successfully able to do it. I did a hack job once where I used a blender plug in to create a 3d satelite model of the terrain and imported it as an object mostly as a reference. I would reccommend searching youtube for "importing terrain data into beamng" or "beamng satellite heightmap" or something. I know that there are websites that will make the greyscale map that you would need. Hope this helps.
You need to convert the lidar data to a heightmap. The best way to do this is with something like QGIS (it might need some googling). Once you have that, you also want the same area as satellite image or equivalent. That will be the base texture for your map. Then you use the terrain import wizard in Beamng to import the heightmap into Beamng. Look through some of my posts for various times I've described the process, also search Spencers YouTube tutorials, as they're decent too. If you ask in the world editor sub, you'll get more responses than in here too. The world editor is a bugger, but it's good fun.
