@HighBeam9000 would this be good for your mod? Or would it have to be added manually to the strip when the map is being created?

this looks like a very fun map for plane enthusiasts, car enthusiasts, rock crawling enthusiasts, off-roading enthusiasts, all of that type of stuff I can't wait for this map to be released in the future keep up the great work and don't overwork yourself. Good luck

Maybe. My Airstrip Lights mod is designed for the arcs and straight lines of runway lights and taxiway lights.

If you look in coreLightsExtension.lua, you will see the following functions:
    • scripts_HighBeam9000__AirstripLights_coreLightsExtension.SpawnPointLightLine
    • scripts_HighBeam9000__AirstripLights_coreLightsExtension.SpawnPointLightArc
These functions can be used to draw arcs and lines of evenly-spaced lights. Take a look at the other LUA files for examples of how to use these functions. The functions that place lights at specific airports internally call the functions above.

I understand the reason for using glowing textures. They're visible from much further away than lights. However, light cast on objects is also visible from further away than the lights themselves. My Airstrip Lights mod takes advantage of this. You can't see the light as far away as you can see an object illuminated by the light.

The advantages of using lights might be:
    • The light illuminates planes as they roll down the runway. I'm pretty sure textures don't do this.
    • Light spacing might be easier to change than changing the texture to adjust spacing. Just erase the existing lights and use the functions to generate another set with different spacing.
The advantages of using textures might be:
    • Reduced memory or processing overhead because it's not a whole bunch of lights.
Either is a viable option depending on a designer's particular goals.

A little off topic... but I was seeing that some mountains have radio towers or microwave relays, how many of these are on the map so far? @Barbent Servo GT

You can use what ever you like. I will use my light objects because of the minimal FPS impact and it is part of my progress for this map. I have offered it as an option for everyone not as an substitute for your lights or mod in any way :).

Illuminating planes with marker lights is the (slightly strange) way you go. I will have just a few dedicated ones to achive this like the real thing. Your light attempt is very good. Your auto place funktions are awesome too but I only have to place them once and if needed to change the distances or create light curves I could easily use the built-in "place objects along decal road" feature from the WorldEditor so why should I even look into you files

I cannot see any advantage to use your technique for my map and besides, I don't think it's pretty, imo.

Exactly this is on topic :). A question about the map!
I have placed many radio towers and relays. There must be a wave chaos - LOL. I think I have bout 20 now. Maybe there will be some kind of mission to maintain them all. But you will need a car with very good off-road capabilities. They also use the light objects mentioned above and some of them have a unique color blink code so you can use them for navigating.

You are completely wrong. And it is a bit weird how you come up with this thought.
    • Does it make sense to show a finished map as WIP? No.
    • Would it make sense to show you unfinished untouched areas, so you could see plenty of the green grass and unsculpted edges? No.
    • Does it make sense to show you the finished and the progress areas? Yes.
Conclusion: It is not finished at all. I am working every day. It is big. Please think or try to.

Whenever I see the map's name, I can't help but think of that one scene from "Rescuers Down Under".
    (0:00-0:28. Ignore the rest)

    Seriously!

Well, I do understand, that it is a bit hard to imagine what is exactly going on with this map. I am sorry if I am not able to describe in what progress state this map actually is. I could say 50%. I could say 70% but I also could say 30%. I have made very high design standards for this map (because I wanted to) and it takes it's time. I cannot work faster. I am on full throttle.

This map is not meant to quickly fulfill any thirst for consumption :). Neither for you nor for me.

It is meant to have an ultra high quality playground even for mid hardware and to achieve this with the best technical attempts available under the hood while embrace you with endless beauty and fun. This is what I want. This is what I will do. And this is what you will get for free. I will release a pre alpha what means that it will not be finished at all but you can start playing on huge areas! Please do not ask when. I have no answer. My feeling is commander. Maybe I will make an ultra low budged (1€) early access to the further WIP versions. But they also will become free on every next update.

If it is too difficult to be patient or something, try to start an own map or car project (so we can finally blast away those paied rubbish and those rip-off artists). Not only I will try to help and support with knowledge whenever possible! Also support me in ANY way IF you like:

E.g. let's all try to lift the quality and creative diversity of this forum. Try to love any idea. Support any kind of creativity. Be kind to the big and little attempts. It will lead to the feeling of richness instead of feeling something is missing or isn't good. This is only my suggestion. This is the way I go. Also with this map.

    Progress:
Sooooo I managed to install the desired curbs for the Airtona racetrack. The good thing: It costs not a single byte of RAM nor a millisecond in computing, cause they are made out of terrain. It was possible to sculpt them with the terrain tools. And since the terrain resolution isn't fine enough it comes to a triangle ripple effect what makes the car shake a bit. That's what I wanted. Turn a disadvantage into an advantage :).

    Happy playing!

i dont care for the waiting as long as everything goes well you can abandon the project at 99 percent finishing because you think its not worth it and ill still be ok with it i wont agree but ill still be patient

I had the pleasure to meet Barbent Servo GT a couple of days before and I can say if you are not playing on a totally rotten potato it will run on your side. Barbents workflow is incredible and as lightweight as possible. All I can say is don't rush him. This map will get insane!

A big map needs a fairly good pc, if a map do not works fine, your pc is not good enough, and you should update it, so do not blame the creator or a map.

As for people who are impatient, TRY TO DO WORK IN THE EDITOR YOURSELF, I did it a bit, and it takes a lot of time, and patient, and disapointments when the editor breaks your map.

So People, let Barbent do his great job, good maps take's a lot of time to make, and the map will be free, thank him for his time and effort that he took to build this huge map. After all, he spent his free time to do it, so we can enjoy our great game, with new content.

Thank you "AlexKidd71" for your kind words. Our meeting was a great pleasure for me too! We were able to excange plenty of deeper knowhow and enrich our pasion for BeamNG.
I don't feel any rush. But sometimes it's simply not easy to imagine the size of the map if there isn't a huge area with somthing like back country or "endless" desert. It's just difficult to make clear statements about a release date....

What I can deliver right now are some progress pics again :):

There are decisions, I make especially for you BeamNG friends with lower powered PCs. They all have no negative effect on visual experience:
On the contrary: Some of them give me more freedom in design. It starts with optimized assets (even the vanilla ones, I use), then I sculpt all secenes instead of covering it with rock objects. Many trees are placed by hand: you need half of them! And it ends with the use of tiled ground albedo instead of being forced by the use of PBR, to either have a combined albedo map or complete 8k maps for each of the ground materials even if they are not in use in big areas. That would eat up an incredible amount of memory.
There are many ways to create a lightweight data background with a beautiful appearance to the front at the same time :),
Also, my own PC is certainly not the very newest - LOL .
    --- Post updated ---
Yes :), I have five different backup streams.
If someone likes to start an own map project, I strongly recommend to install an appropriate backup solution first. The World Editor is in alpha state, too. If the game crashes when you are fighting a race, it might be ultra annoying. But if the World Editor eats up you map after months of work, this would be fatal. Please keep this in mind!

At the forum by SCS I see also a lot complaining about that the game become's too heavy for them, but they are actual playing this game for 10 years on the same pc, come on, update is nececary once in a while, or we all stuck with graphics of the 80's ;>)
But it is great to hear you are doing everyting to lower the specs for your map, and we are greatfull for your great work. Let the complainers talk, they do not now how much work it is.

Everything looks really amazing, and the fact that it’s optimized for lower PCs is even more impressive!
