Here's a changelog for the next "update" *added a few trees on hirochi raceway *fixed another barrier on hirochi raceway *added a texture to T75 dashboard *fixed some random bugs *added an engine-side thing which doesn't matter to an end-user ...aaand another month of silence. Whenever a thread like that one appears, defenders come with them. "You are so ungrateful!" "You should be happy with what you got" "How can you demand anything". But guess what? I PAID FOR IT. And I demand to be AT LEAST informed. Frequently. Seriously, how can you be that uninterested? It is in your interest to ASK for updates and information. It's their job which they got paid for and get paid whenever someone buys the game. Do you like to be *almost* ignored saying everything is okay? Thank you, that's all I had to say.
Look, I understand that there isn't very much progress and I do appreciate the effort that is put into this whole project by the devs. The development may be slow, but at least it's going. Yes we paid for it, but at the same time we should realize that this isn't going to finish right away. But I agree, please update the experimental, with at least the stuff that isn't "very very broken".
Yes, its our job, but we will not be hostages being held under weapon force to press out information. We switched responsibilities on the PR things and are transitioning things into a different scheme. I am personally quite sad on how the blogpost evolve all the time and it decreased my willingness to do them a lot, because i know, no matter what i will post, i will get shouted on. From monday, someone else will do the PR job, we'll see how better that is.
The word "broken" is tossed around here like a two bit hooker. My hope is the devs take action to manage a finely tuned road map of carefully selected updates rather than trying to perfect a million requested features all the while trying to deal with millions of bug and "broke" complaints and as time goes on dealing with an increasingly hostile and knee jerk customer base. (run on sentence intentional). It's their baby and they have the ultimate say. I don't think they're concerned about an exodus of customers, they have something unique and they know it.
I'm pretty sure they'd be disappointed be there a mass exodus. We are their income, it's their full time job.
Look, it's frustrating being out of the loop rather than in it. Even I'm starting to lose my interest because well... there's been only one technical blog post... so the blog's not too interesting to me. It's nice having the occasional update on "hey, we're doing this"... again it's only occasional... but props to tdev, I think it's become somewhat regular. Hooray! The experimental doesn't really get any updates as it did when it started. I'm worried it's become sort of what the stable was... but it sounds like the stable is about to get a few committed features handed to it. I've also noticed that a thread needs to pop up each time there's something we want to know in detail. This is kind of how it's going to be dealt to us, it's going to seem agnoizingly slow. Come back in the summer, there may be a wealth of new things to hear of. Just accept that this is how BeamNG do it.
Pick me XD But yeah, some more communication would be more useful, I know y'all are doing a lot of work but most of it isn't shown to us.
People have questions tdev and long bouts of silence only make things worse. People really do care about what you guys are doing very passionately. I look forward to the PR scheme.
Aw, tdev. Even if we yell at you we still love you. Honestly here is the thing. I am rather fed up with the development cycle. I'm a bit disappointing that it's not going at a pace that I would find normal. I'm not totally happy with the things going on inside the company. But, outside this post. I will almost never talk about it. Why? I value the devs as people. I understand I am a paying customer, but I've been around the devs since this forum came online and though it may sound a bit odd, I value their well-being over the $15 I spend on this game because they are people I would probably be friends with in real life. tdev, gabester, estima, and lfjhutch (I'm so sorry if I butchered your names.) and all the new hires are people that have interacted with us and put up with us for 3 years now. You might say that they need to do that since we paid them, and while that is true, we also need to see them as people. I would rather my $15 never be seen again then have one of the devs feel bad about what they have done. They have created a mildly/majorly successful business based off something no one else has really done. I'm not going to give them crap, just like I wouldn't give my friends crap if they were creating a game. tl;dr I value the devs more as people than as frikken pieces of software. We have all gotten $15-$25 out of this software, we need to appreciate the devs more. We don't want to destroy something someone has put 3+ years of their life into. I'm sure getting mad isn't helping Gabe.
I worked 8 hours/day on the weekend trying to keep things together, it is just wearing down on one if you have to justify your every little step in defense mode all the time, knowing you will get shouted on, saying how badly managed the company is, while trying the best you can at the same time.
Tdev, may I ask a question that may seem insensitive but truly will help me understand what's going on?..........Do you or any of the team have previous engine/game development experience? If the answer is no then it makes complete sense in my mind the current "guerilla" nature of BeamNG development. Please do not be offended by this question. I must ask it because believe it or not I love the hell out of you guys and I love what you are doing! If you choose not to answer it's totally understood. Thank you.
Not being offended by this question is like asking you if you ever had a common sense or tactfulness. So, yes, i have years of experience, thanks for thinking i am an idiot. And, don't be offended by that, i love you all as well <3 Thank you....
The next update will be out when its out guys! I have been checking the Dev Blog every day for a long while now. I realize that you guys have a busy enough schedule the way it is with making this game. Although I do like being in the loop so to speak when it comes to development news. I would be okay with a monthly Dev Blog. It would relieve some stress off of the writer of the blogs and would keep us happily informed as well every month. Keep up all the good work Dev Team!
Just saying... http://www.rigsofrods.com/ Pretty important game, completely revolutionary at the time.
Here's what I think about the lack of updates; I think we, or at least the majority of members on this forum, know that developing a game take a long amount of time. Especially since BeamNG isn't being developed by a large, triple A publisher like EA. I feel like that is a lack of communication between forum members and devs, and that it could help for the devs to value helpful criticism, and not to think of it as something personal. And the forum members need to learn how to give helpful criticism, rather than just rambling on about the same issues. I know in the earlier stages of development, devs hosted live streams teasing the game and its features. I think most of us could benefit from something along the lines of a "open mic" live stream, where the chat room could ask questions about development, new features, etc. Obviously, I don't know if this would work, but I'm just throwing out ideas.
I know a lot of information comes though in forum posts from the devs. Something like DayZ's devtracker could aggregate this information in a more central location without a huge amount of extra day to day work by the devs. Of course it would require some upfront work to implement. I play DayZ occasionally with friends, and I keep up with news basically by visiting the devtracker where I can see the bi weekly status updates as well as forum, twitter, and reddit posts. I dont think the reddit and twitter connections are really necessary in this case, but maybe something like a link beside "New Posts" that basically does a search for new posts by users with dev badges.
I think I've said enough on this subject. Implying I or we think you are idiot is going for the low hanging fruit and expectedly offensive. Clearly, asking that question was bound to evoke an intense response from people who can't or won't understand what the question was about or it's goal. I will definitely put more thought and energy into asking questions of this caliber as a general rule from here on out. I love you guys, I love BeamNG and I love the community. Carry on.
It's nothing personal. and it really isn't. No-one's calling you an idiot. An idiot wouldn't have taken over Rigs of Rods, then taken charge of this project and have it work. I'll assume the best in this case, so I'm interpreting this as a dodge from something you don't want to admit. It sounds a lot like you've taken over way too much as you frequently complain under fire that development is a huge undertaking and you don't really have the time to do this -- you're overworked. You've deligated work to Drowsysam, he looks like he'll do a good job and hopefully do it on a regular basis like we've been asking for. It'll just make things better. You don't have to deal with it, we get the information we keep asking for.
God. Just stop bitching around on both sides, please! When i buyed the Game 1 and a half year ago, i was thinking that this Game will never ever be complete. I wasnt expecting much... so i dont really care. I now think that what the DevĀ“s have reached and maked so far, is really amazing for (in the beginning 4 devs). I still think this game will never be complete. And if you truely open your eyes you will also think like me. So far (After nearly 2 years of alpha and 3 years of developing) there is 2% Gameplay, driving a vehicle and crash it as realistic as possible. The Experimantel version of this game is actually the best with the engine update etc. Crashes are even more realistic and more fun. Only thing i miss is the lack of official content. I know Gabester has some problems, and the game is called BeamNG.drive isnt their another Guy who could do vehicles? Stop begging around. Stop bitching around. Just enjoy the Game like it is and get surprised by tdev. Oh nearly forgot to mention, blog posting wasnt really good (in Timing) but when you saw it it was every time amazing to see changes and content. Now Samy does the Job for tdev and he does it thery nice. Nothing really different like tdev, Gabester or LfjHutch did, but nice. Uh... such a long post, sorry for english mistakes etc. And dont get offended by me.
