So I'm thinking of getting into mod creation I've never tried nor started it before so this'll be a first I'm thinking of making a car based on The Bugatti Type 57 SC Atlantic maybe as a Bruckell or Civetta now again i have zero J-beam experience i slightly know blender but I'm stuck at how to start if anyone is interested in helping this project and or giving tips/advice i could use it and if there are any videos that may be good to learn let me know thanks a have a great day
This is the wrong place to ask, but you shouldn't try and make a car, especially a complex vehicle as a first car of you have no modeling experience
yeah fair i kinda wanna start with something harder i wanna challenge myself to actually learn something new and hard i have very slight modelling experience and i have multiple blueprints and ideas but i get for my first mods it may be hard thank you
yeah but basic things are already hard to make so making a complex supercar from the 1930s that lacks any proper reference image or underbody, engine... pic is just plainly stupid theres a reason most people either start out making econoboxes from 20 years ago (which is still complex and not reccomended) or make simple stuff for already existing vanilla cars
Mby you can start with doing parts for the vanilla cars in the game? like custom bumpers, fenders etc... It can take up to 2 years and even more to make a car from scratch and i can see that time doubled for a beginner. If you don't want to do parts you can try making props? I know that's not what you want to hear but it's the hard truth - Making a car from scratch without any knowledge is like trying to paint mona lisa without any painting skills. But if you really want to try and see how far you can get there's a few videos on youtube. Fillman86 has a video called "how to start modding" or something like that and he has a discord where people can help you further. The video kinda goes through all the steps so you can get an idea of where to start and how advanced it is and i guess the discord is for the committed ones lol Good luck!
so youd rather let them start a car, get demotivated within 2 days and stop modding forever? the reason it isnt reccomended, not by me, but by most modders that know what they are doing, is because its a very difficult and demotivating task even when you know what you are doing, so adding being new on top, its just not a good idea just take a look at the land section, use the filter by tags for WIP mods, and youll se many many many mods that are just "hi im new im gonna make this" or "heres progress (very uncomplete model)" that die off within the week or two. So im not discouraging, im being realistic. Also if you hate me so much and "want me to leave you alone" why are you interacting with me? do you just want drama?
As the outsider here, you are BOTH right. Discouraging them is not ideal, but modding is hard and especially a full car mod. There has got to be a balance between the two. Let them challenge themselves and support them, while still suggesting they start with something smaller. It is discouraging to find out modding is hard, but it is also discouraging for somebody to say "Don't even try that". That in itself could keep them from modding. Probably
Btw i forgot to add this: https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/ You can probably find something useful in there, i can see they have all kinds of categories for mod creation and examples of how you code the springs in the suspension etc... I would dig through all of that if i were you. There you can also find what programs to use and what not to use.
If you want to learn how to make mods, a great way to start would be to find an old mod that has been broken by past game updates and make it work again. Fixing texture, engine and handling bugs would be the minimum, but for an extra challenge you could add new parts that it didn't have before, redo especially low-poly or low-res-textured components, and/or add openable doors to fully bring it up to modern standards. If you like mid-engined sports cars you could try fixing the Soliad Fieri.
Although I think Lordlichi2006 is coming off a little rough and abrupt. I understand it. I've been 3D modeling, doing CAD and making mods for games for many years. I've seen so many people excited to start modding with little to no experience, try modding really hard or unique things and end up getting out of modding entirely. Some of them came back later to mod, most of them didn't. It doesn't take long to see that Lordlichi2006 knows what they're talking about either, they've posted multiple mods. Me personally I haven't posted anything publicly on beam, all my stuff is private for now, but I do mod on multiple games and like I said I've been modding for years, including long before beam came out on ROR, 18 WOS Hauling, AMRA 2, rFactor plus many more. That's not including games i'm helping develop or the game I'm creating. A lot of the ones that wanted to get into 3D modeling was to get into some game dev stuff with us, but like I said they wanted to try to complicated of things. I'm a graphic & web designer by profession and it's same deal. People want to get into graphic or web design, but want to design really complicated stuff then quit early on. Where once you learn, you can start building yourself up to more intricate and complicated stuff pretty quick. You just have to get early steps first. The entire car HighRoller2 wants to model is super rounded. Last thing I'd ever recommend to a new modeler. Like Lordlichi2006 said start with modding parts for vanilla cars or start with something more boxy. You can ask almost any modder out there and they're going to say pretty much the same thing Lordlichi2006 is saying.
I would suggest starting with the kit car guide provided by the devs. This gives you a basic idea on how to model, Jbeam, add parts and solve a few problems. Have fun! https://documentation.beamng.com/modding/vehicle/tutorials/basic_car_tutorial/
thanks mate thats a good idea i might make some more parts for the new bruckell 9 or mabye a mirama i def wanna start modding seeing all the mods people make the praise and the enjoyment is def what i strive for but yeah thanks again ill give it a try --- Post updated --- agreed i see how long cars can be in development for but i guess most of that is the desighning and the configs im watching tons of vids on it slowly gettin the understanding of it im kinda more blueprinting rn on the design but yeah thanks for the tips --- Post updated --- i def agree now i see how hard it is to curve in blender so i should prolly start with props as some say i could mabye start with the modeling of something boxy more 60s like my dads car yeah i agree i shouldnt start with what i intended to thank you --- Post updated --- i do like this idea alot i may give this a go thank you --- Post updated --- haha fr though its kinda like that in my head rn i dont know where to start --- Post updated --- thats fair acctually making a car that has almost no info about it --- Post updated --- i didnt expect the drama but im here for it
