Hey, I've been following BeamNG for not that long, but still, I am probably as excited for BeamNG Drive as everyone else. There is just one thing I'd like to know: Are the servers ready for all those download requests which are going to come in as soon as the counter finishes? I really want to play (if that's a tech demo (please be a tech demo )) the game as soon as possible and am just a little curious Thanks in advantage and have a good day P.S.: Sorry for possible bad grammar, I'm from Germany
Yeah, it will be funny if situation will become similar to Black Mesa Source's when server got down under heavy avalanche of downloadings)
Your grammar is very good compared to some Americans. But, I would just say make sure you get the game as soon as you can.
If there is anyone that knows what they are doing at BeamNG they will host it somewhere decent. Amazon, Rapidshare, Mega... etc.
Problem is I don't know if the hosting companies will automatically increase bandwidth capacity for them or you have to increase it upfront to whatever you desire. I'd guess anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 people downloading come 11pm. If you can serve everyone at around 1MB/s, thats pretty reasonable. I don't really know how it works though. All you pay amazon is for the GB's downloaded, not how much bandwidth you are using. You also have to take into account automatic caching across servers throughout the internet run by ISPs and stuff.
I have a backup plan... DDoS the server until it's all clear, then stop the attack and rush back before anyone else. </sarcasm> It would kinda be hilarious for the server to go down though, in a messed up sorta way.
Fortunately BeamNG isn't *that* big of a deal. It's not like a new Elder Scrolls launching on steam to the whole world at the same time. Realistically a couple thousand people at most will download at once i'd guess, if the forum activity is a gauge at all. And then everyone will see the epicness on youtube and the downloads will keep on going steady for days/weeks.
It's a huge deal for me, and us, but far more people care about the big games than a tech demo Yah... it won't be more than 3 or 4GB tops, in my opinion. Wouldn't be surprised to see a 0.5GB file.
Well RoR, with the content packs, is about 900mb. So unless that doesn't apply in this case, I wouldn't expect it, plus a few cars to be over 400mb.
I would really not be surprised if so many people get on its like a ddos. I will not be able to play it until tomorrow anyway.
