WIP Beta released Polar Expressway Revamp

    The slippery road is intended, as I replied before. If you do want to change this, follow these steps:

    1. Unpack the mod ingame. You can also directly edit the file in the compressed file if you can do so.
    2. Navigate to your user folder, follow this path, find and open this json file in the mod folder: BeamNG.Drive/0.34 (game version)/mods/unpacked/polar_expressway_revamp/levels/polar_expressway/groundmodels/groundmodels.json
    3. You'll see "snow", "snow_deep" and "slippery", referring to the groundmodel of dirt road, snow and asphalt road in this map.
    4. Adjust "staticFrictionCoefficient" and "slidingFrictionCoefficient" to your liking, which changes the static friction and sliding friction of the ground. You can google for the friction value of different road surfaces.
    5. Save the file and load the map. Effect should take immediately after saving if you do the edit with the game open. If not, you need to re-enter the map.
    6. Pack the mod ingame.

    I'm not sure if this will conflict with future updates. You may need to edit that again if you use other version of this map.

    1. 游戏内解压模组,如果压缩软件允许直接修改压缩包里的文件的话也可以不解压
    2. 打开用户文件夹,按以下路径找到这个json文件并打开:BeamNG.Drive/0.34 (游戏版本)/mods/unpacked/polar_expressway_revamp/levels/polar_expressway/groundmodels/groundmodels.json
    3. 文件里有"snow" "snow_deep" "slippery"几项,分别对应土路,雪地和沥青路
    4. 调节"staticFrictionCoefficient" "slidingFrictionCoefficient",分别代表路面的静摩擦系数和动摩擦系数,具体可以百度
    5. 调好了之后保存,进地图,如果你进地图之后才修改,修改应该会立即生效,没有的话重新进一下就行
    6. 游戏内压缩模组

    修改这个文件可能会和以后的更新冲突,比如更新后你的修改就没了,可能要重新改。

    Edit: "snow" refers to dirt road and "snow_deep" refers to snow in this map, made a mistake when typing and have corrected the tutorial:)
    勘误:"snow" 代表的是土路,"snow_deep"代表的是雪地,不小心搞错了,已经把教程的错误纠正过来了()

    目前还有些画的饼没做好,比如更多土路、小房子啥的,还在计划搞点新东西,看情况吧()我争取下个月中旬之前发出来;)
    Currently some promised stuff has not been finished yet, like more dirt roads and houses, and I'm also planning for some new features. I hope update could be done and posted before the middle of next month.;)

    This looks amazing! You've done a great job with everything. I can't wait to see what else you add!

    Okay, I've taken the D-Series and the Bastion around the paved roads, including the highway and side streets, and I took the D-Series on a few of the off-road tracks.

    First of all, the layout is perfect: you have just the right amount of space between settlements (town, supply center, etc.) so that it feels like I'm actually driving from one to another, but it's not an annoyingly long way. This is especially important because I have to drive slower in the snow.

    Second, you've got a great variety of both settlements and roadways. The map isn't cluttered, but it's full enough to make it seem lived-in. You hit the perfect middle ground here too.

    The only area of improvement I see is that the paved streets are bumpy in some places, as are some transitions between road ways and bridges / tunnels. (The highway seems to be mostly smooth, with rare exceptions.) I live in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains, and some of our roads here are rather rough, so if it's intentional I understand. The D-Series handled all the bumps just fine, but the Bastion bounced around sometimes.

    Finally, I think you hit the sweet spot with the road's slipperiness. I was able to drive at a moderate pace without losing control, but I had to be careful with tight corners and braking. I've driven in snowy conditions both in Tennessee and Ohio, and the roads here seem to be pretty accurate. On top of that, they're just fun to drive on, and that's the whole point.

    I really appreciate your feedback. As one who lives in an area that rarely snows, I'm creating new stuff mostly with imagination and inspirations from other snowy maps/pictures. Your feedback is important for me to further improve the map, and I'm glad that this map gives you a real feel!;)

    As for the bumpy road, some are intentional and some are issues which I haven't got to solve. Originally the roads are smooth, but I think adding some bumps and pothholes could be more challenging and realistic, so I did this. The transitions of bridges and tunnels are unnatural because of my lacking of experience when designing the highway system. I'll see what I can do to improve —— smooth the transition, or slow you down to alleviate the weird bump?

    For Me Definitly the Best WInter/Snow Map its Challenging yet Fun to drive and its really funny how the Traffic Cars(Agent Ys Traffic Pack) just spin out or slide around only thing is that i run it at around 50ish fps not 60fps or more but its really joyful love the Distances between Towns and other Stuff they are just perfect

    I'm glad that you are enjoying this map!

    And yes there're probably some performance issues in this map. I usually limit my framerate to 60 so maybe I seem to ignore the lags. If you don't mind, can you share where you get lower fps in this map and how much this map is optimized compared to other maps? Could be helpful. Thanks!
