the tree "asset" is basically just the texture i created from screenshotting a BeamNG tree lmao, you are free to use them ^^

OMG I started doing the exact same thing myself Good to know it's possible to get good results using that method!
small tip, i reset the normals of the trees and grass to always point upwards. (effectively disabling shading) its a neat trick to make grass blend more with the ground and make it less obvious that the trees are just 2d planes
Oh that's a great tip. I was using the Viz helper to render the normals, but they always looked a little odd. I'll try this!
