Here is an X99 based build I put together with price in mind. Total cost comes in at $2000, and should be good for moderate 4k resolution at 45fps. I wouldn't worry about stock fans on the Air 540 and the H105, they are just OEM versions of their SP and AF series fans, and will get the job done more than sufficiently. Though the choices I made on parts were cost saving measures, that will not hinder the PC's performance at all, and should be very quiet and enjoyable under heavy workloads. Put the rest of the money saved towards a nice 1440p or maybe even a 4k monitor and a good keyboard and mouse.

Heres the thing, I heard that the 4790k is better for single core performance for games... Also the 980 will eat the 290 in games. Here is the build I've got now...http://pcpartpicker.com/p/9bwHQ7 (Ive got my reasons for these so Ignore the ssds and the hhds)

That is correct. However, we are beginning to see more and more games begin to take advantage of what multi-core processors have to offer, and I have a feeling X99 will have a place in the enthusiast gaming community before long. The 5820k has a pretty tough to beat price to performance ratio (relevant to Intel, of course), and the H105 will provide plenty of cooling headroom to overclock this CPU.

Yes, the 980 will absolutely rape the 290x in games, but a 980 is absolutely pointless for anything less that 1440p. The 290 is no slouch, it will do 4k at reasonable details, at a price to performance ratio that is hard to beat. This card will have absolutely no problems maxing out 1080p, and like I said, will do 4k if your brother so desires with the leftover money.

Good luck with the build, and hopefully his wallet won't be crying too much after the build.

Both builds look awesome, but there are a couple of things you may want to reconsider.

First, you have four mechanical HDD's in the system. I would advise you to stay away from multiple smaller sized HDD's, and instead look into one or two bigger drives. That way you're much less likely to encounter HDD failure, and it will drastically reduce the price of the rig. In your build, since you already have two SSD's that I'm assuming will be the boot drives, there is really no point in doing a RAID setup with the HDD's like you listed. All that would come from that is faster in-game loading time, and would bring reliability into question. The HDD I listed may not be as fast the one's you listed, but you're going to get 2TB more, stellar reliability at a lower cost. Just my $.02

Second, if you're really insistent on a 1080p monitor, even at 144hz, I'd opt for a more reasonable GPU, such as the GTX 970, or the R9 290x, or even the R9 290. There really is no point in opting for the GTX 980 for purely gaming at 1080p. These cards can be had for over $200 cheaper than the 980, and will undoubtedly be able to max 1080p without a single issue, even at 144hz.

OK I wanted to have 4 hhds for raid 10 but I guess 2 of those drives wont hurt. Also I might swap out the ssd for the Samsung xp941 ssd. Also the reason I want 1080p is because there aren't any 24 inch 1440p moniters. The benq is good for my brother. My brother wants the 980. I cant argue with him about getting a 970. So which one would you recommend? X99 or Z97?

If your brother has the budget, then by all means go X99. It's not too terribly higher of a cost than Z97, and you gain two hyperthreaded cores and newer RAM technology.

I'm gonna go with x99 and if I went to z97, He won't have room to upgrade in the future and Intel is going to release the skylake processors in a couple of months.

I built a new system last yr:

Asus X-79 Deluxe
Core i7-4930
BFG GTX-780 ACX
32gb of Crucial Balistix Tracer
Sound Blaster Z Pro

I was not ready for the leap to SSD so I went with a VelociRaptor 1tb boot drive

BFG 1000W [incase I want to SLI down the road]
Sata - Blue Ray Player
Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced [blue LED]
Zalman 9500 off of my Core 2 Quad 9550 - yes it works fine

not everything your were looking for, but most of the hardware is a 9 Kick @ Maximum PC

http://www.maximumpc.com/best-of-the-best

this hardware has no issues with any games @ 1080 ..... I run 3 24 inch Dell 1080 Displays

yes the LGA1155 is yesterdays socket, but still usable

if I was doing this build today :

X-99 Deluxe
5930k - 6 core
GTX 980 - single GPU - 2 GPUs only buy you a couple more FPS and bragging rights - it is not cost effective on a 1080 display

if you want 2 cards :
AMD's Radeon R9 290X

Memory - as much as you can afford ....
