do you have the refresh? if yes then delete this old one. --- Post updated --- the creator got banned
Do we know why? It's just very out of the blue. Primo updates the mod and is then banned the same day, most likely within hours. Just what on earth actually happened? I know the mods here usually have a good reason but still, some transparency when it comes to Modders would be nice considering how much they've added to this game and most definietly extended it's lifespan.
So... we have exactly zero clue on why the creator of the mod got banned? I feel like for someone as important to the community as this, the moderators need to be a lot more transparent instead of simply pushing out a "moderation reupload" and giving the entire community a bunch of questions.
Seems like he didn't update it, it was the mods, probably because when you get banned, all of your uploaded mods get deleted/hidden.
The creator's account was banned/disabled because it is likely compromised. The mod was infected with malware in the April 1st update, and the moderation reupload was done to push an update to users so when they update the mod they get the previous uninfected version back. If you had this mod's version 1.94 between April 1st and the reupload, you might have malware on your computer, so I highly recommend scanning for viruses and changing all of your passwords. The malware attempts to steal passwords from browsers and crypto info from Exodus wallet at the very least. Note that simply viewing the mod in the mod manager was enough to trigger the malware, loading the map isn't even needed.
Even viewing the mod in the mod manager? It’s one of the most subscribed mods of all time! What’s next, someone puts a Berryman-Langford memetic kill agent in the Hirochi Prasu?
Hi, thank you for sharing this notice. When you said 'viewing the mod in the mod manager was enough to trigger the malware', does this mean that the user would have needed to download the map from the repo first in order to trigger the malware? And did the user have to click on the American Road mod in the mod manager, or was viewing the list of installed mods enough? As this would significantly expand the number of affected users, and there could be thousands of people each needing to change hundreds of passwords. I'm surprised that the Beam devs haven't made an official announcement on this yet
Deleted (someone told me the american road virus is just a rumor. It might be, but I'm not gonna spread info that could be disproven)
Sorry, let me clarify. To trigger the malware you needed to download the mod and have it enabled, then view it in the “installed mods” section of the mod manager. If the mod was disabled the malware was not triggered. I’ve posted further details here https://lemonyte.com/blog/beamng-malware
Hey all. We wanted to share a quick update to keep you all informed: A mod was recently found to contain a malicious exploit. BeamNG.drive has been protected against it since version 0.35. To make sure everyone stays safe - especially those on older, unsupported versions or unofficial copies - we removed the affected version of the mod from our repository. Rest assured, we're continually monitoring and improving the security of both our game and the mods hosted with us. And, as always, we recommend being cautious and following basic security practices on your end too. Thank you for your understanding and support
As someone who downloaded this mod when it was in version 1.94 between April 1st and the reupload, this is all very exciting news!
