I just thought of this then while I was uploading a preview video for my new OM936 Engine. Why not have it so that if you upload a video file directly to the BeamNG forums, it can be played without downloading the whole file? So basically instead of it being like this, and needing to download it to watch it It'll be playable without downloading, kind of like a YouTube embed, but for the direct video file. A good example of what I mean by this is Discord You can download it optionally, but you can watch it without downloading. In my opinion, it's a lot easier for people to show bugs or show off their mod previews if the video is viewable directly without downloading it, as more people are tempted to click a video and play it there rather than download the video file. Plus, it minimizes risk, as people might not trust the video file attached and dont want to play it on their PC, as it might have a malware embedded. Example below (Name blurred for privacy) Thanks for reading! I hope something can be done as this would be a really good feature to have
This would be a good idea, but I think the developers have thought of this before and they have a reason to why it isn't a feature.
I wonder why it wouldn't be a feature? In the event that a video did have malware, it's more safe to embed it in the website player, rather than the end user download the file and run it fully on their PC
I don't really know why it wouldn't be a feature if the developers thought of it, but I have a speculation to why. It could be that if there are too many videos in one thread, it can overload the website.
Potentially, but videos shouldn't buffer and download until theyre clicked. I do remember when the CCF crashed the forums though, so it definitely can happen
