So as I scroll through vehicles, 50 different modders make the same 10 cars. Why not make something different and cool? theres such an overabundance of 3 and 5 series, camaros, mustangs etc. and the thing is they arent even different generations. There are afew here and there that make cool stuff.
One way I could explain that is the fact that modder that starts modding usually starts with pre made 3d models that they import in game . Some of the 3d models that you often see are the free ones so that probably why so see them over and over again ... The more talented Beam modders do all their 3d modeling / jbeams themselves . That makes a way better quality mod but this takes a lot of time , years often .
Scrolling through the most popular car mods myself, I don't really see the same vehicle over and over, the thing is that popular car = everyone wants to mod it into Beam. If you're talking about automation cars, you're right, there are too many automation mods that do the same thing, some cars bring something new to the table, but most are just generic, they are also stupidly easy to make so it is no wonder that we have over 20k of them on the repo.
Im talking about how theres 50 bmw, or mercedes or audis. and its not like they are making cool older ones, its all the same 2 or 3 generations. same with even stuff like hondas or nissans. its the same z's and accords, civics. I wish i knew how to mod so i could make cooler stuff. well cool to me anyway. I occasionally find really old mods of cool stuff, but they either dont work are kind of crappy. Im just not personally a fan of new cars, i prefer 70s-90s shitboxes. lol, but sadly there arent much, unless its the same 2 or 3 hondas, beemers or mercs. there is also a huge lack of trucks that can be lowered, they are all offroad trucks.
iirc it is easier to make a certain type of car than a completely unique car- especially to how vanilla cars are based on eachother sometimes
I 100% agree. It feels like every other new mod is some kind of hatchback. No one in this community wants to make anything original.
Considering you are posting here, there's virtually nothing stopping you from learning how to And yeah, it's easier to turn ETK 8-series into a BMW 3-series and a Covet into a Civic. The platform is the same, so all it takes is making the model fit the jbeam (and vice versa).
do note that many of these "unoriginal" creations can be people's first modding experiences too, not everyone is a god tier modder
I guess the new Blender2Jbeam plugin has probably increased the amount of similar vehicle mods, but since it is easier than ever to learn modding, people should start making more original cars, but most choose the meshslappy way of repurposing a vanilla car instead. The Automation mod market might be oversaturated, but at least there is some originality (They could be seen as an Art-form (as long as they aren't replicas of real cars) to a certain extent). Out of all things you could make in Automation you chose an Egg 1995 hatchback with an unleaded gasoline I4 aimed at City or an extremely overpowered racecar. I mean how is there not an m250 Matiz despite there being an m100 and m300?
Unfortunate for us old car lovers but times change, those sorts of cars are popular now and there are lots of references for them. For a lot of people just getting into cars and BeamNG those will be their first cars or their first 'cool' cars. For older modders that might've been something from the 80s or 90s. Also people don't often check if someone else is making one before they start so you get a lot of duplicates.
making something unique is hard, you have nothing to base on Jbeam wise and model wise its hard becuase your only reference is some pictures from forgotten forums.
muscle cars and shitboxes are the easiest kinds of cars to design. they're often made up of basic, blocky shapes, can share lots of parts, and have simple mechanics. that's why they're a common first choice for modders i think
modding is generally a simple formula you take the cars that are most generally liked then you favour the designs that are easiest to recreate/ have many references, thats how you end up with many 90s japanese shitboxes, 60s and 70s muscle cars and 80s euro cars, especially if we are talking about fully scratch made forum/repository mods which require you to model texture and code everything in the car
