    hey everyone,
here i have a stadium super truck, but its kind of my design for the roll cage so its not really a stadium truck but will have the same body panels
also as you can see, i am not using blender, so... if i cant use this because its a c4d. file then i will ask for this thread to get deleted.
Also, the reason why i made this thread really early on in the project is to see if anyone was interested in what i want to do and about the cinema 4d issue.
the reason why i am not using blender is because i think this program is easier to use, and i have more experience with it and will not restart on blender if c4d. files cant be used.
    i hope this works out.

Re: STADIUM SUPER TRUCK. BUT... I got some questions.

are you thinking more of a 6100/7200 truck like this?
6100-lg.jpg that truck may look a bit more close to this.

a stadium super truck design looks more like this.
    1471764_909867909044996_6790731567919258715_n.jpg 10968582_909867962378324_4281262751547971810_n.jpg 10391025_620767368051484_9045434200191216764_n.jpg sorry for crappy pic.
this is a prolite class truck. note the front end design is coned down and don't worry about front end travel, the wheel is the front-most part of the vehicle (besides the fiberglass body)
also note the position of the engine. it's sitting where the passenger seat is. this is to help distribute the weight of the vehicle to a more central position. it also counterbalances the weight of the driver so the truck comes down smooth and flat after some sick jumps.
if i were you though, i would restart the build on the front end. there doesn't appear to be much in terms of positioning the front end lower and upper control arms. also make sure you have a lot of travel like in pic below.
hnm_slider_7_trophy_truck_ashcraft_racing_suspension_handling_whoops.jpg note how close together the inner part of the control arms are.
i hope some of this helps with your build and good luck with the jbeam.

thank you for the feed back! you know,i have restarted the front end more than i can remember. i will try to take into account of the control arms. i actually thought of that today when i was at school but i understand that looking at it now it is not a stadium truck at all, it is more like a trophytruck. also, i wanted the engine to be mounted in front of the driver.

note: i am not that great with creating polygons and modeling them either.

i would love some help on this but i dont know if i did the right. i think i modeled the role cage wrong. does it have to be one big mesh or lots of different shapes?
    your truck looks badass aswell.

i did it as seperate pieces so that the circle did not deform or get screwed up. when you are trying to make a round bend, rotate the circle after extruding it on what ever axis (x,y,z) and type in your rotation radius. after that you can fine tune the curve by adding loop cuts and pulling individual circle segments to make a better, more smooth rounded edge. a good tool to use is the subdivision surface modifier, it adds more smooth vertices and proper form. practice making 90 degree corners and seperating different bends so the tube frame looks more realistic, a tubr frame isnt one conjoined tube, only in certain places, other tubes ar welded in place for support. usually your roll points are one tube such as where the tube would connnect from the bottom of the frame to the top bending to the roof, other tubes like the cross bars between the doors would be welded in therefore it can be a seperate piece in the object. if you need a more phisical example of what im saying, i can send you a frame i have that im not gonna use for examples and compare to.

i do know that in "real life" they are welded together and in some spots they are bent, but as i said in the original post, i am using cinema 4d.

i have switched up the front a bit, i hope this is what you mean by adding more space for control arms

    OFFTOPIC!

May I ask you what program you are using? It looks like it's a good program and "easy" to use.

its cinema 4d, it says that in the original post. it is easy to use but really pricey. like... $900...

BeamNG only accepts .dae format. If cinema4d can export mesh+UV's to .dae without screwing them over then you should be fine to continue.

ahhhh, ok, i will check if i can or not. it has also come to my attention that if this does go on, i will need help with modeling suspension and running gear (engine, tranny, diff, drive shaft).

    - - - Updated - - -

it says i can export to COLLADA(*.dae). is that what i am looking for?

Try exporting a model and see what another modeller makes of it on loading.

Re: STADIUM SUPER TRUCK. BUT... I got some questions.

I use Cinema 4d as my primary modeling program, the collada exporter is pretty bad, it doesn't export the rotation and position properly. Cinema 4d is mainly for animations, but it also has some great tools for modeling and nurbs, and the render'er is pretty good if you don't mind waiting.

I highly suggest you start modeling with the lines on either in Gouraud or Quick Shading, seeing what your polygons are doing is very important.
    fAuuD.jpg

Im guessing you are just cylinders for your roll cage, I suggest using splines and using the sweep tool. You can create much more complex shapes and angles this way.
    fAvDH.png fAvGX.jpg

When you are making something that involves a circle or a cylinder you need to be aware that you don't a high amount of rotational segments, make things simple.
    fAw1L.jpg

8 rotational segments is the sweet spot when it comes to polycount and looks.
    fAwvX.png fAwyZ.png

You can change the rotational segments on a circle spline by changing the intermediate points from adaptive to natural and changing the value of the number.

There are some great tutorials on cinema 4d. Youtube and Vimeo will be your main places to look for tutorials. Websites like http://www.cineversity.com/ and http://www.lynda.com/ are a great place to learn. If you are stuck on something these forums are really good and helpful. http://www.c4dcafe.com/ https://forums.creativecow.net/cinema4d

so just using cylinders will not work? or can i continue, or is there a way to... kind of weld them together so it would be one big shape and wouldn't break apart. does that mean that i cant continue because of its exporting issues?

Cylinders will work, these were just suggestions.

This is a stadium super truck. the truck makes 600 horsepower, has 35 inch tires, 2-3 speed transmission, fiber glass body, 4 linked which means it has trailing arms, double by pass king shocks and coil overs which gives the truck 24" of travel in the rear and 18" of travel in the front. good luck on your build man.
