The problem is your graphics card....out of vram.....performance will be terrible as you have figured out. I can recreate this exact problem with high end hardware (Rtx 5070 12gb) if it uses more than 12gb terrible performance, yet using direct 3d mode doesn't have the same issue.

On the other hand vullkan is the only way to get maximum performance when you have top end hardware and are cpu bottlenecked

    Example. 80-90fps in d3d mode

    150fps in vulkan

Forgot to add its KDE and Wayland.
Anyway updating to Mesa 25.1.4, most of the screen flickering is gone, there is still some occasionally, mostly at the begginning after map loads, and then when driving around. Also, at least to me, before the flickering was white, now its black. Kinda weird. Also noticed that the new Mesa downgraded Vulkan version to 1.4.311, idk man.

Native linux version sadly still crashed even after recent hotfixes :(

Question for the Dev's about Vulkan and how it handles AI traffic. I'm well versed in how the game uses CPU cores/threads to process each vehicle spawned. Is vulkan starting to offload some of that work to the GPU instead of the CPU.

I ask because I've been doing lots of testing and found in scenarios where i'm obviously CPU limited when spawning 40+ cars, I'm seeing a FPS increase when using vulkan.

    Example 1.

    R9 7945HX3D 16 Core 32 Thread (Basically a 7950X3D but slightly lower power)
    RTX 5070Ti
    96GB DDR5-5200

Utah Map 40 cars spawned in D3D mode

    Right around 60fps

Now in Vulkan Mode (All other settings the same)

Around 75fps, that's a decent increase in performance.

    Example 2

    285K 8 P-Core 16 E-cores
    RTX 5070Ti
    32GB DDR5-7200

East Coast USA 40 cars spawned in D3D mode

    60-65 FPS

    Then in Vulkan

    70-75 FPS

So it seems like some of the traffic might be getting offloaded to the GPU?

    Adding another curve ball

    Example 3

    285K
    RTX 5090
    32GB DDR5-7200

East Coast 40 cars spawned in Vulkan

    85-90 FPS

I'm CPU limited with that many cars spawned, but simply adding a better (the best GPU) I'm now seeing an increase in performance.

So is this just a coincidence or is Vulkan being tweaked to allow the GPU to process traffic?

Going back through some of my older video captures, looks like it's been a thing for at least a year.

    14900K RTX 3090 40 cars spawned.

    14900K RTX 4090 40 cars spawned

That's a pretty big difference in performance with only a GPU change

Good afternoon, I'm dealing with this problem, the game stopped running on the Vulkan engine. It was last launched half a month ago, and since then it has not been reinstalled or added new mods. This error appears in the safe startup. Deleted all folders with previous versions. It didn't help. I completely deleted the game and all possible references to it. It didn't help either. Updated all the drivers, it also didn't help. The 3070ti graphics card. Sometimes, when closing, you get an error like the one in the second photo, but it doesn't always happen.

Realistically you're not gonna get very far with a card that isn't recommended for modern vulkan applications, doesn't meet minimum requirements and has 1gb vram. You're probably just gonna run out of your vram instantly which causes FPS to tank even more than it would be on a 650 usually, is that what problem you're having?

Yeah and I don't think its going to. Older version of BeamNG might work with D3D10 or just an earlier version on D3D11

Please report issues only from BeamNG 0.37 from now on :)
In this update, alongside usual improvements and stability fixes, we added a major feature to Vulkan, which is GPU texture streaming.
    - Game only unloads mips (higher resolution textures) if VRAM usage is above 50%, which will reduce pop-in on GPUs with a large amount of VRAM
    - Game will stop loading new mips (higher resolution textures) if VRAM is used at 80%, this prevents the game from running out of VRAM/crashing on Vulkan, but results in muddy/blurry texture,s but at least makethe s game playable.
This is only GPU streaming, that means those textures are already in RAM, and only they are loaded/unloaded on demand in GPU.
Texture streaming is not implemented in D3D11.

Brother, that card doesn't support Vulkan. That's why it won't start.

This issue from 0.35 is still present in 0.37. Appears unchanged, not less, not more.

It isnt in any of the two known issue lists, as such i kept reporting it. Closest is "Graphical glitches may occur on older GPUs" but im/we run modern amd hardware

Well well well... I'm back! And with some pretty interesting news...

It's time to review the latest Vulkan update in 0.37

    Specs recap:
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
    11th Gen Intel Core i7 - 11800H (2.3GHz)
    16GB of RAM
    • 0.31 on WCUSA ULTRA: 16 FPS AVG
I was also getting GPU, CPU and Game Engine Bottleneck
    • 0.32 on WCUSA ULTRA: 30 FPS AVG
    Now only GPU bottleneck occurs
    • 0.33 on WCUSA ULTRA: Game gets stuck in loading screen
    • 0.34 same thing as in 0.33
    • 0.35 on WCUSA ULTRA: 4FPS AVG
0.36 on WCUSA ULTRA 7FPS AVG
    • GPU usage is below 50% at all times due to the dedicated GPU RAM being maxed out
    • CPU usage is non existent
    • RAM stays at 65% percent
    • In summary: same issues with VRAM still occur
0.37 on WCUSA ULTRA 21FPS AVG
    • We are SO BACK, we finally start to have a somewhat playable experience... or at least we're getting there! But the difference between the last update is massive
    • GPU usage is as usual below 50% at all times due to the dedicated GPU RAM being maxed out
    • CPU usage now lays around 25%
    • RAM stays at 65% percent like always

    upload_2025-9-16_18-20-19.png

I have to say future looks bright for low VRAM players! And thanks as always for each and every one of you and your efforts that make this game possible :p

Where can I send issues about graphical bugs? I have problems with wath looks like artifacts on a XFX RX 580 and a New PowerColor RX 9060 XT 16GB. I Know it's not from the grafics card, I have tested them.
Also when they happen it's only 1 frame, the color saturation is increased and has the mexico filter over it.
