I've seen a few attempts at scissor doors in the past, and most of them simply move the door hinge about to make it act more like a butterfly door. I've completely rebuilt the Door JBeam to have the out and up functionality of commercially available scissor doors So far only the Covet and BX have had new doors fitted, the latter including a painted door handle version by F3X. Also special thanks to Raven for modelling the Hinge mechanism so it doesn't just look like the doors are floating in thin air! Teaser for the upcoming Pessima doors, just need to sort out the support beams to stop it wobbling about so much now!
Man this looks awesome!! cant wait to get home to try this. Maybe some gullwing or Koenigsegg doors would be cool too, for the bolide or smthn in the future? just an idea for the future. EDIT: I tried this, and its great!!! love the work so far, but when I drive with the doors up on the BX they wobble a lil bit (kind of how they would irl), but that just makes for better static and drift missle type builds
I did find a bug where when you suddenly stop while going pretty high speeds with the doors up in the Covet (~45-60+ mph) then the doors would kind of "break" and look like normal doors, but closing the doors fixes the problem. Hope this helps!!
Thats good to know. TBH I tried some new techniques that make the doors a bit more stable on the Pessima that needs to be applied to the BX and Covet as well.
i think that this is a great mod but could u make a version of the doors that open more to the side? because in my opinion it look kinda akward.
If they opened wider then the hinge would clip through the fender. They've been made to accurately represent the mechanism they are made using, and they do not open very wide. They _do_ however need to open higher, which is the next challenge.
Whats the trick on doing this on doors? Im learning how to mod on beamng and adding scissor doors is definitely something id want to learn how to do. I just dont know where to start. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
There's no trick, just study of the documentation in the wiki and a prior knowledge of vehicle mechanics and linkage principles. I looked at how others had done it, saw where they were going wrong, and adapted my own from there.
Peak late 90's early 2000's Tuner Scene stuff.. Now we just need game consoles, large TVs in the back and outrageous speakers like the Jackhammer and we can do RP's of Pimp my Ride and West Coast Customs lol.
This is so cool! Awesome work making them look so authentic, I'm really looking forward to the pessima parts
