Hey everyone, Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz around AI tools that can generate videos from text, and one that caught my eye is Genmi AI. It’s fascinating seeing how you can input a script or a scene description and get a video clip out of it. Given we’re a community that loves tech, mods, creation and experimentation, I was wondering: Has anyone here used Genmi AI (or similar tools) to generate videos? What was your workflow like? Do you see potential uses for such AI‑video tools in gaming/modding (for example, preview trailers for mods, concept clips, cinematic sequences)? What are the limitations you faced (resolution, length of clip, style consistency, cost)? For those who haven’t tried it yet — would you jump in? What would you use it for in the modding/gaming scene? Would love to hear your experiences and opinions — maybe we can swap tips or even try some joint experiment. Cheers!
I've got my own kinda spicy views on generative AI, which aren't strictly related to this conversation. But speaking personally, I don't particularly want to use AI for anything right now. Most of the work I do (or even wish to do) is something I like to do myself, to challenge myself or make it mine, even if it isn't quite what I wanted. I also don't really understand wanting to use generative AI for creating videos about or within games. In nearly every case, it's considered in poor taste to show off a WIP mod or, say, an early access game, in a way that doesn't capture the actual state of the product: the thing you're actually pretending to play. It just feels to me like the best-case-scenario here is being able to lie more convincingly, which, while there is certainly a market for that, and I know full well I can't personally litigate all of the dishonesty out of the world, doesn't sit easy enough with me to make me consider joining the race to the bottom. I don't think every use-case is inherently immoral, but I'll keep things charitable and say it's not my cup of tea.
I already have way too many creative ideas I'm procrastinating on, without needing AI's help! My main interest in AI in a creative context so far is perhaps to test the limits of chatbots by asking certain questions and then write about the experience. I do have a friend who used AI in making music videos, inserting himself into them using a green screen. Here's one if you're curious.
